The days are getting longer, the clocks change just before Easter and Spring is beginning to spring! Very excitingly the double bank holiday that gives us a four day Easter weekend is nearly upon us. It’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy some quality time with your family. Whether you are looking for something fun for Easter weekend, or you have the whole school holiday to fill; there are plenty of events in and around York to keep you and your family entertained.
Come rain or shine, children love visiting the farm, and there are few better times to go than at Easter. There will be plenty of baby animals frolicking about, some of which you might be able to hold or feed. It’s hard not to fall in love with newly born lambs or fluffy yellow chicks. Alongside adorable animals, farm parks often have plenty of other activities for kids to enjoy from climbing on hay-bales to tractor rides. Piglets Adventure Farm, a short drive from the city, has lots of special Easter events including an egg hunt, magic shows and the chance to feed the lambs.
Easter Egg Hunts
As you may have heard, the National Trust is partnering with Cadburys to bring you some awesome Easter egg hunts. It’s a great way to keep the kids entertained and get them out in the fresh air for a couple of hours. In and around York you are spoilt for choice with three different Easter egg hunts to choose from. You can join in at Treasurer’s House in York or Nunnington Hall and Rievaulx Terrace both less than an hour’s drive to the north. Follow the clues to earn a tasty chocolate treat. Whichever Easter egg hunt you choose, be sure to take a stroll around and make a day out of your trip. It’s an ideal chance to spot the first signs of spring and explore somewhere new together.
Chocolate and spring blooms
Spring is all about new life and we love heading outdoors to spot the newly appeared spring blooms. The National Trust has put together a list of the best places to head in Spring to spy carpets of flowers, and excitingly one of them is just a stone’s throw from York! Set coordinates for Beningbrough Hall Gallery and Gardens and enjoy! If you’re a chocoholic Easter is a wonderful time of year and in York you’ll find a festival dedicated to your passion! From Thursday 29th March 2018 to Monday 2nd April 2018 craft chocolate makers take over Parliament Street with their sweet treats.
