Lake District

If you’re looking for a charming spot, then you definitely can’t go wrong with the Lake District. Renowned for its stunning scenery and fairytale villages, it’s little wonder that Romantic poets like William Wordsworth, found inspiration for their work in this enchanting landscape.

If she’s into hiking then don your boots and set off on romantic ramble together, with a picnic packed in the backpack of course! Otherwise, you can explore the lovely local landscape from the comfort of a traditional steam train. Chug your way past lakes, mountains and valleys on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. A ride on these beautiful steam engines will have you feeling as though you’ve stepped back in time.

For those who prefer to be afloat, then a cruise on Lake Windermere is a must. Enjoy beautiful views on England’s longest lake from the water, with a glass of something chilled in hand. Windermere Lake Cruises offer a range of trip options and have a collection of beautiful steamers and traditional launches.

Or, in keeping with the spirit of romance, you can surprise her by hiring a rowing boat and heading out by yourselves for a couple of hours.

Brecon Beacons

Having mentioned both England and Scotland, it would be unheard of us not to include the stunning countryside and charming towns of Wales, and especially cottages to rent in Brecon Beacons. This beautiful national park is the ideal destination if she’s a nature lover or simply craving a slower pace of life. Take her out for a hike in the mountains, followed by a good dinner and a few pints by a roaring fire at one of Wales’ best pubs.

If she’s the bookish kind, then the characterful town of Hay-on-Wye awaits. Brimming with bookshops, antique dealers and quaint little cafes, this small market town is quite possibly one of the most romantic spots in the whole of Britain. Finish off the day with an evening spent stargazing in the national park, which is also an International Dark Sky Reserve. Due to the lack of light pollution in the area, on a clear night you can see the Milky Way and even meteor showers.
