Snaptrip & the Marine Conservation Society
Why we’re partnering with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS)
We love the British coast. It is full of diverse delights, from towering cliffs to soft sandy dunes. The seaside has often been credited with restorative effects; in Victorian times doctors would prescribe ‘sea air’, and we now know that being by bodies of water has a positive impact on our mental well-being.
If you subscribe to our emails or follow our social channels you will often find us extolling the virtues of a coastal break. We strongly believe in encouraging people to go away and experience the relaxing effects of the sea, and to ensure people can continue to do this for generations to come we also believe that it’s important to look after our stunning coastlines.
This passion for the British coast and its conservation is what has led us to become supporters of MCS. We’ve all seen images of animals struggling after ingesting, or becoming entangled in, plastic waste. We’ve all read statistics about how much plastic is in our seas and how much of it washes up on British beaches (as well as beaches across the globe). It breaks our heart, which is why we want to support MCS in the amazing work they do to protect the UK’s seas, shores and wildlife.
Who is the Marine Conservation Society?
The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is the UK’s only dedicated marine charity working solely to secure healthy and plentiful seas. They focus on reducing beach litter, encouraging wider sale and purchase of sustainable seafood and creating areas of protection in the UK’s seas, just as there are on land. Through their work with schools, industry, politicians and the public, they’re ensuring the seas are not out of sight and out of mind.

Get involved…
There are lots of ways that you can help look after our seas and support the work that the Marine Conservation Society does. Below are some of the things we will be doing to support their amazing work, and ideas for how you can get involved.

1. Do a beach clean
There are plans in the pipeline for the Snaptrip team to take part in a beach clean later this year. Let us know if you do one too. Whether its on your own or as part of an organised group, the more waste we can remove from our coastline the better.

2. Reduce your plastic waste
As well as cleaning up the coast, its important to stop waste ending up there at all. So, why not take part in the Marine Conservation Society’s Plastic Challenge? We’ll also be running giveaways on Instagram for products that can help you have a more sustainable holiday, keep your eyes on our account for more information.

3. Share your wildlife sightings
MCS would love to hear about the wildlife you spot when you’re on holiday in the UK. They are especially interested in sightings of basking sharks, marine turtles and jellyfish. You can report what you’ve seen on their website. If you don’t know where to go or how to best spot animals in the UK, we have lots of hints and tips.
Additionally, if you fundraise for the Marine Conservation Society, you can make a real difference to the work they do. This page has more information about how you can support their efforts.
