Buxton 3 miles. The Shavings is a charming studio apartment, set in the rural hamlet of Cowdale on a working farm. This property is a lovely alternative to the usual Peak District cottages, in a superb location on the edge of the Peak District National Park, just 3 miles from Buxton. Set on the ground floor of an old stone barn conversion, The Shavings offers a welcoming and homely accommodation ideal for couples. Look forward to relaxing into the evening in front of the TV; break out the popcorn for a romantic movie night or plan the events for the days ahead. Cook up some delicious evenings meals in the well-equipped kitchens and gather at the breakfast bar with a refreshing glass of bubbly to toast to a wonderful holiday. When you find your eyelids drooping shut, retire to the double bed and get some much needed rest, with a contemporary shower room to serve. The Shavings is a wonderfully welcoming and economical base for a relaxing holiday in the Peak District. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1020909, 1021021, 1021023 and 1021024, together sleeping 30 people.

Buxton is home to many magnificent buildings and gardens, thanks to the patronage of the successive Dukes of Devonshire. The splendour that characterizes the buildings of the town was created in the 18th and 19th centuries including the semi-circular Crescent, Hall Bank, The Pavilion Gardens, The Square, The Great Stable and The Opera House. The history of the town goes back much further, to when the Romans came to Buxton, drawn by the constant 28 degrees centigrade of the bubbling waters of Buxton's eight thermal springs. Every year, Buxton hosts the Festival of Music and Arts, and the Opera House offers a full programme of performances. The ruggedly beautiful peaks and gentle hills of the Peak District make this area a wonderful location for lovers of the great outdoors.

    The apartment was well appointed with some lovely touches like milk and biscuits. We were very warm and comfy after some rather wet exploration of the Dales!

    Nicely located and friendly hosts. You were made to feel welcome, heating was on for us on arrival which very rarely happens anywhere. I would definitely return at some point. Only comment I would make was that the mattress was getting a bit tired and not the most comfortable but everything else was perfect.

    We were very impressed with the standard of the interior and the facilities. We had a very relaxing time and we will definitely go back again when we can. Andrew seemed to be very busy around the property but was always very friendly and helpful. We would recommend this site to everyone.
