Snaptrip says

The Barn in Compton Bishop is highly praised for its peaceful and beautiful location, ideal for countryside walks and relaxation. Guests appreciate the well-equipped property, the welcoming touches such as homemade flapjacks, and the friendly owners. While most find it comfortable and clean, a few noted areas for improvement in cleanliness and mattress comfort.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found The Barn to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments on cleanliness issues such as pet hairs and a dirty mattress cover. These appear to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is consistently lauded for its stunning views, peacefulness, and proximity to local attractions and walks. It is described as an ideal base for exploring Somerset and enjoying the countryside.

Guests generally regard The Barn as comfortable and cosy, especially with the wood burning stove. However, there are remarks about the bed being uncomfortable and suggestions for a larger bed, which slightly affects the comfort score.

The Barn is praised for being well-equipped and having everything needed for a stay, including a full kitchen and wood for the burner. A few guests suggested minor improvements, such as a larger TV and an updated bathroom, but overall the facilities are very well-received.

The owners' thoughtfulness is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome pack and personal touches. While these gifts are warmly received, it is politely noted that such extras, while delightful, are subject to availability and not guaranteed.

About this property

This pretty, detached cottage is situated beside the owner's cottage on the edge of Compton Bishop. South facing and with country views to the Mendips, it is a lovely place for couples. From a pretty courtyard, open the door to your smart kitchen which is well equipped for preparing meals to carry up steep stairs to the dining room where you can admire views over fields as you eat. Afterwards, relax and watch TV or enjoy more views in the big, comfy sitting room with its traditional wood burning stove. A peaceful night's sleep is on the cards in the double bedroom with its en suite shower room. The courtyard has a sunny table and chairs for sitting out. This is an excellent area for road cycling or mountain biking, so why not bring your bikes since there is a lockable store for them? There is splendid walking around the Mendips too, as well as riding, fishing, bird watching and golf. Historic houses and gardens to visit abound, and the caves at Cheddar Gorge are a must-see. Beaches can be found at Weston-super-Mare and Burnham, and it's not far to explore Bristol and Bath. With all these amazing sights in the area, The Barn is brilliantly located for a fascinating break.

Small gravelled garden with double gates which made it very secure for our two westies. Good kitchen downstairs that is very well equipped with everything you should need, even had sharp knives which I find is a rarity. Smart tv so Netflix’s etc once you’ve logged in. Our only fault and for us it was a major one was the BED! The mattress to say the least was a very basic coil sprung one when it was bought and offered no support at all. So much in fact that we had to buy 2 cheap duvets which we put on top which helped a little but still caused us broken sleep and back ache, so much so that we left a day early. It was a real shame as everything else is a really good quality but for us a good bed is vital. We mentioned this to the owners and really hope they address this with a decent supportive mattress. Once this is done it will be 5 stars like it deserves

A couple of minor points: - the radiator in the dining room didn't come on at all - one of the fire bricks in the side of the wood burner has come loose and was in the base of the stove. It is possible to put it back but it keeps falling down.

Beautiful walks nearby-need to keep dogs on lead most of the time because of livestock, but lovely walks across the Mendips. Highly recommend Wells- make sure you make a whole day for Wells & also Cheddar Gorge for visiting. Lovely owners, very kind & helpful. Highly recommend The Barn- we will very likely book again- thank you for a very lovely stay.
