About this property

This delightful Grade II listed cottage is situated in the charming, rural village of West Lutton, in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds and close to the towns of Driffield, Malton and Scarborough. Built around 1801 as an estate workers’ cottage, this superb property is an ideal base for families and friends wishing not only to explore the Wolds, but also the stunning North York Moors National Park, the Hambleton Hills, The Howardian Hills, the stunning coast and even the historic city of York, which is just 50 minutes' drive away. You can leave your car on the cottage's wooden bridge over the pretty Gypsey Race stream. Once you have parked up and gone inside, you will find a holiday home that caters for all your needs, with character features throughout, including exposed beams and fireplaces. There is also the added bonus of modern features including BT Infinity WiFi and BT TV. The kitchen has everything you require to rustle up a tasty breakfast before venturing out for the day, or a heart-warming meal in the evening, which can then be enjoyed in the dining room with feature fireplace. On chilly evenings, you can relax in the snug sitting room whilst the logs on the warming woodburning stove crackle away. Alternatively, summer nights can be spent enjoying an alfresco meal, or curling up and unwinding in the summerhouse with a cold drink and good book. On the first floor are three bedrooms, including the master king-size double with an apex ceiling and feature fireplace, and the bathroom has an electric shower and a deep whirlpool bath, perfect for resting those achy legs after long walks out and about in the Wolds. Nestled in the beautiful Great Wold Valley, West Lutton has an historic church and a dog-friendly pub, The Three Tuns, which is just a two minute walk from the cottage and serves great beer and home-cooked food. The Blue Bell and The Star in nearby Weaverthorpe are both also excellent choices for dining out, as is The Triton Inn in the beautiful estate village of Sledmere. There is a good farm shop at Sledmere as well as Butterwick, both only a few miles away. The gentle, undulating Yorkshire Wolds, stretching from the River Humber to the south to the chalk cliffs of Flamborough Head are ideal for walking and cycling, and are well worth exploring. There’s plenty to see and do in the area, including the historic properties of Castle Howard, Sledmere House and Deer Park, Burton Agnes Hall and Gardens, the RSPB reserve at Bempton near Flamborough, the coastal resorts of Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby. Inland there’s Thirsk, Helmsley, Easingwold, Pickering and of course York. A wonderful Wolds cottage for a varied break.

The small, rural village of West Lutton is situated in the Yorkshire Wolds, close to Driffield. The village has one pub, but close by is the village of Weatherthorpe, which hosts a village shop, Post Office and excellent inns. Ideally located, West Lutton is just a short drive from the delightful historic market towns of Malton and Driffield, while the East coast resorts of Filey, Bridlington and Scarborough, with their long, safe, sandy beaches and seaside amenities, are also easily accessible.

Wifi signal was strong (there's little mobile signal as it's very remote), and the kitchen was big and well fitted out. The fire lit very easily and very cosy living room. Only drawback was the smell of the damp in the cottage as it does have quite a lot of damp. We bought some plug in air fresheners which helped and hey, it's only for a week.

A mix of old and modern . Catherine Pasek has successfully combined the old with the new . Her personal touches were great , very friendly and welcoming .The welcome pack was such a nice touch as were the personal notes left by Catherine . Ive been to a few cottages and this one ticked all the right boxes . Centrally located for so many places of interest and amazing walks .
