About this property

Melvich 4 miles. Originally a church, this stunning holiday home is situated in unspoilt countryside, four miles from Melvich, in the remote and beautiful north of Scotland. The church dates from 1837 and has been impressively transformed into a unique, spacious holiday property, ideal for any group who will appreciate its comfort and style, and embrace the opportunity to explore this dramatic region. This Melvich cottage has two large bedrooms both with en-suite facilities, as well as a luxurious family bathroom where guests will enjoy a peaceful soak at the end of a busy day. A mezzanine-style balcony, complete with chaise longue, makes a perfect, private reading area, whilst the open plan living area in this Highland holiday cottage, with its high ceilings and oak flooring, exudes style and quality. Doors from the living area in this cottage near Melvich open out to a private, rear patio garden where the only sound to be heard is that of birdsong. The little communities of Melvich and Portskerra are just a short drive away, whilst a journey further along this far north coastline will take you to the larger village of Durness, which is surrounded by wonderful mountain scenery and spectacular coastal views, as well as having fabulous sandy beaches and bays. For lovers of birdlife, a trip to the RSPB reserve in nearby Forsinard is a must, and for fisherman, Sutherland is a location hard to beat. This Melvich cottage is a very special place, offering a holiday to remember in a beautiful area of Scotland.

The village of Melvich is located on the north coast of Scotland near the mouth of the River Halladale and is set in the rolling and open space of Sutherland known as 'Mackay Country'. Fascinating area and it was so lovely to come back to the Auld Kirk after a busy day. A perfect space for the family to be together.

The house is spotlessly clean and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need for your self catering holiday. The only problem we had was finding the Wi-Fi password but we laughed when Ronnie pointed to it on the base of the router. Owners Janette and Ronnie were absolutely lovely and we look forward to seeing them again when we come back to The Auld Kirk at "Trantlebeg" xx

Located in a beautiful area surrounded by amazing scenery in a very tranquil and peaceful spot. This is an ideal location for tranquility, relaxing and recharging your inner self. It was so good, we've booked to go back again.
