Snaptrip says

The Old Schoolhouse is a well-received cottage, praised for its comfort, well-equipped kitchen, and beautiful garden. Guests appreciate its peacefulness, cleanliness, and the proximity to local attractions and eateries. While some minor maintenance issues and suggestions for improvements are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests looking forward to returning.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Most guests found the Old Schoolhouse to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated incidents of cleanliness issues such as dog hair and leftover items from previous guests. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

The location is highly praised for its convenience for day trips, proximity to local market towns, and excellent dining options within walking distance. The scenic surroundings and easy access to outdoor activities contribute to its high rating.

The property is generally regarded as comfortable, with a particularly comfortable bed and well-appointed lounges. Some guests, however, found the sofas and bed less supportive, and there were comments about the suitability of the space for pets.

Facilities are well-regarded, especially the kitchen appliances and enclosed garden. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as a non-working dishwasher and minor repairs needed, which slightly lower the score.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owners. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

About this property

This attractive, stone-built cottage lies in the rural village of Grandtully, close to the River Tay in Perthshire. The Old Schoolhouse is a lovely choice for families, providing a heart-warming base to return to each evening, with a lawned garden where you can sit out and take in the day’s events. Internally, the property features a large kitchen where the chef of the group can get acquainted amongst a host of appliances, including an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge, while the others can prepare the oak dining table for a sumptuous feast. When it comes to unwinding, head to the sitting room where you can take comfort next to the woodburning stove whilst catching up on your favourite shows, or make use of the sun lounge and challenge each other to a family boardgame. As the evening comes to a close, choose from three well-presented bedrooms to catch your rest; a king-size and two double rooms are on offer, each completed with soft furnishings and a good amount of storage space for your personal belongings. Allow your pooch to stretch their legs in the enclosed garden whilst you kick back on the patio furniture and soak up the last of the evening sunshine. Nestled on the banks of River Tay you will find a local pub and restaurant, and across the street lies the Grantully Hotel both with excellent restaurants and bars which are perfect on those nights you don’t fancy cooking. Grandtully is also home to an award-winning chocolate artisan at Iain Burnett’s Highland Chocolatier, as well as a convenience store where you can pick up any essentials. Venture to the small town of Aberfeldy, where you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor adventures; take on white-water rafting, abseiling, gorge walking or canoeing or simply spend an afternoon wandering the Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery or Aberfeldy Watermill. Our stay involved four adults and a very enthusiastic but well behaved dog.  The property has a well equipped, large kitchen diner, a gorgeous sun lounge, a big but cosy and comfortable lounge and modest sized downstairs shower room and utility area. The bedrooms are of a good size and it has a nice modern bathroom (a non slip bath mat might be a good thing to consider adding). There is a pretty garden (a stream runs down the side of it which will be mentioned again shortly), plenty of driveway and the exterior of the house looks very nice. Suggestions for improvements regarding being dog/child friendly: We appreciate that at different times of the year the stream in the garden will vary in size. It might be safer to fence this off to prevent inquisitive children/water obsessed dogs from getting in. We could never let our dog off the lead in the garden as he would have gone straight in the stream (which, due to all the rain around our stay, was quite fast flowing) and then he would have got muddy pawprints inside the house. We would hate to think of what could happen to an unsupervised child in that area of the garden. A fitted stairgate at the bottom and top of the stairs would be a huge benefit. We brought one from home with us but in The Old Schoolhouse the stairs are generously wide so it was very difficult to adapt our gate to fit the width. It is stipulated in the welcome folder that dogs are not allowed upstairs (which is the same as at our home) but if someone's dog is usually allowed upstairs then the current lack of stairgate would make it very challenging to stick to. All the carpets and furniture in the lounge and sunroom are lovely. Whenever any replacements are needed then it might be an idea to avoid getting cream again as keeping paws/children's hands clean enough to not leave any marks (especially if it is soggy weather) is quite challenging. Having said the above, we all enjoyed our holiday and the location is idyllic. The Inn on the Tay nearby was very dog friendly, welcoming and serves delicious food so was a great bonus to our stay.

Comfy and welcoming after long walks in the area. Both village restaurants are highly recommended. The Inn on the Tay for great quality casual dining and the Grandtully Hotel for absolutely stunning food! Hot chocolate at The Chocolatier is a must too! A visit to The Hot Box (early booking a must, it’s popular
