The Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway are located in Porthmadog, the entrance to the Snowdonia National Park, from which you can take a steam train through the breathtaking scenery of the park to Blaenau Ffestiniog or Caerforn. Porthmadog is also home to many unique shops and eateries. A short drive or walk will take you to the charming village of Borth Y Gest, which is known for its cliffs and coves. Just along the coast is the renowned and distinctive Italianate village of Portmeirion. Miles of sandy beaches and wooded areas surround Portmeirion, which is famed for serving as the backdrop for the TV shows The Prisoner and Cold Feet's climactic episode. Portmeirion is located on a rocky clifftop on its own private peninsula.
