Snaptrip says

The Generals Cottage in Monmouth is a well-received holiday rental, praised for its peaceful and beautiful woodland setting, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests have enjoyed the presence of wildlife, including deer, and the property's proximity to walking trails and historical sites. The cottage's remote location adds to its charm, although it may not suit everyone.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently noted the cottage as very clean upon arrival, indicating high standards of cleanliness. There were no negative comments regarding cleanliness.

The location is highly praised for its seclusion, natural beauty, and wildlife. It is noted as peaceful and ideal for walks, although the remote nature and approach road may not be to everyone's preference.

The comfort of the cottage is frequently commended, especially the comfortable beds. However, some guests felt the space was a bit small for four people, suggesting it is more suitable for couples.

The cottage is described as well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and guests appreciated the inclusion of a Firestick. However, there were minor issues with the oven not working and suggestions for improvements like a heated towel rail.

While some guests mentioned receiving gifts such as milk, biscuits, and eggs, there are not enough instances to guarantee such gestures as a consistent service. Therefore, while these acts are appreciated, they cannot be expected by all guests.

Only issue we had, hence the score, was with the oven, which didn't work. Thankfully the grill did.

Owner allows you to wander the woods and this time we saw and heard a stag with his retinue. Stress levels immediately reduced on arrival. Also very good for bird watching and dark skies.

Facilities were good but there was nowhere to dry the towels, there was a washing line but no pegs, we were using damp towels, so a heated rail would be good and a small supply of pegs. We found it a bit chilly in the evenings. The bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet except for the sounds of wildlife which was great. I did struggle on the last morning to get the car up the steep hill as it kept skidding on the leaves. I would certainly recommend this for couples. There are plenty of places to visit without having to use your car if you are keen walkers
