About this property

Kington, 6.5 miles, Llandrindod Wells 14 miles, Hay-On-Wye 17 miles. Railway Station Cottage, perched on a quiet holiday park on the Wales/England border at New Radnor, Powys, is a Grade II listed, detached cottage. Originally a station house on the old Kington and Eardisley Railway line, this delightful abode is perfect for families looking to escape to this beautiful part of the Welsh countryside. Upon arrival find the off-road parking area before walking from the enclosed garden up a small slip into the main hall. The spacious kitchen/diner provides the perfect place to socialise and share stories, while the sitting room is equipped with a TV, ideal for cosy movie nights. A private, enclosed patio awaits through the door, a great spot to admire the surrounding holiday park. Head upstairs to discover two restful bedrooms, a double and twin, each with ample storage space for your belongings. When you’re ready to freshen up, make your way to the downstairs shower room, complete with stylish fittings. On-site amenities such as the children’s playground and mini golf (bring own golf putters and balls) can be enjoyed by your own little ones and further afield, begin your exploration of the Welsh countryside from the comfort of Railway Station Cottage. Locally, the village of New Radnor hosts a selection of independent stores and eateries for you to sample and includes The Hub - a pop-up pub which is run from the community hall whilst the actual village pub is being renovated. A great place to walk the dogs meanwhile is the nearby 100 acres Smatcher Forest. Travel a little further across the border to Kington and explore its Victorian high street, marvel at the town’s 12th-century church and sample some of the local delicacies. For more adventurous days, venture westwards to Llandrindod Wells and discover its various attractions; the Rock Park, lakeside walks, the Heritage Railway and motorcycling museum and the Victorian Festival Gardens to name a few. Also just a short drive away is popular Hay-On-Wye, with its numerous book shops, craft and antique shops, along with hosting the famous Hay Festival each Spring. It doesn’t matter what kind of break you’re looking for, Railway Station Cottage offers a fantastic base for a romantic escape or family getaway in the heart of the Welsh countryside.

The small town of Kington, well regarded as a centre for walking, is situated near the England/Wales border in a beautiful area known as the Welsh Marches. It is a wonderful area of wooded hills, tranquil valleys and unspoilt Black and White villages on the English side and the more rugged Cambrian Mountains on the Welsh side. Celebrated by visitors for its lovely scenery and excellent walking and cycling in the surrounding rolling hills, this quiet, pleasant town offers a number of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. Further afield there is plenty to do, pony treking is available at the Black Mountains and why not try Canoeing on the River Wye. There are a variety of tourist attractions close by including the Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre, the nationally important Hergest Croft Gardens, Offa’s Dyke Path and Mortimer Trail long distance footpaths, and slightly further afield the National Trust properties of Croft Castle and Berrington Hall. Bradnor Hill, with England’s highest golf course, lies just outside the town. Also within easy reach and well worth a visit is the delightful town of Hay-on-Wye with its numerous book shops, craft and antique shops, along with hosting the famous Hay Festival during the Spring Bank Holiday. Nearby is Ludlow, famous for its gourmet food shops and fine restaurants. The ancient city of Hereford, with its impressive Norman cathedral and famous Mappa Mundi, a 13th century cartographer's interpretation of the world, offers a great day out. A delightful holiday location to suit all ages and tastes.
