Surrounded by the rural landscapes of Normandy yet within easy reach of Bayeux, Caen and the D-Day Landing beaches, soak up the slow pace of life whilst staying in this stylishly restored French château with its gorgeous historic features and landscaped grounds.
There’s such an aura of charm across Château de la Sérénité which dates back to the early 1700s. The elegant château has been so well-preserved over the many years, yet its current owners have added their own sense of sophistication whilst respecting its rich heritage.
You’ll be inspired by its light-filled interiors as you stroll through every room admiring original features such as parquet flooring, 18th century wood panelling and large windows. The beautiful and spacious living room features a Louis XV fireplace whilst there are other spots to seek serenity across smaller lounges and the office/library. The dining room is classic in its design whilst the wonderful French kitchen is such an atmospheric place to create feasts by the open fire.
Up to 12 guests will sleep comfortably across six pretty bedrooms scattered across the two upper floors. Four of the doubles have en suite bathrooms – we especially love the bathtub with a view over the Normandy landscapes. Gentle yet stylish décor adds to the tranquillity and relaxed ambience across this unique and welcoming abode.
Experience yet more calmness as you sit back in the landscaped gardens with over 13 acres of lawns, ancient trees and roses. In the springtime the blossom is so delightful then when summer comes you can enjoy picking plums, apples and cherries. The autumn colours are also magnificent making this château such a scenic place to stay at any time of year.
Make the most of this fantastic setting in Normandy with Bayeux, Caen and the D-Day landing beaches of Arromanches-les-Bains and Omaha within half an hour. Even Mont Saint-Michel can be visited for a superb day out, as can the utterly charming Belle Époque seaside towns of Trouville and Deauville.
You may simply prefer to explore the Normandy countryside, sampling Calvados in nearby orchards, cycling along the Caen canal or horse-riding in glorious surroundings. Head towards the stunning Cotentin peninsula, kayak along the River Orne in Clécy or potter around idyllic market villages and towns savouring the many delectable delights of Normandy.
In the Calvados department of Normandy, within half an hour to Caen, Bayeux and the D-Day Landing beaches, Château de la Sérénité is set in 13.5 acres of beautiful grounds. It’s around 500m to a little village with a church and chapel dating back to the 13th century.
It’s only a 4km drive to Caumont-l'Éventé with its boulangerie, a couple of restaurants and a large supermarket on the outskirts. Close to the village, take an underground tour of the former slate quarry at Souterroscope Ardoisières, accompanied by a light and sound show. Further amenities can be found in Villers-Bocage (10km), a small town that is especially well-known for a WW2 battle in June 1944, shortly after the Normandy landings.
This is a fantastic location for exploring some of Normandy’s most popular sights from Bayeux (22km) to the north with its historic architecture, excellent restaurants and medieval tapestry to the university city of Caen (35km), home to vibrant food markets and the impressive Château de Caen and L'Abbaye-aux-Hommes. William the Conqueror’s castle can be found in Falaise (66km) whilst the stunning Mont Saint-Michel (95km) is another perfect day out.
Many of the D-Day Landing beaches can be reached in around half an hour with Longues-sur-Mer and Arromanches so near and Omaha just a little further. Look out for war cemeteries and museums in this part of Normandy including the D-Day Museum in Arromanches (32km) and the new British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer (38km).
As well as vast stretches of sandy beaches, the Normandy coastline also offers sand yachting, kayaking, diving, sailing and stand-up paddle boarding. Cycling is extremely popular across the Calvados department and beyond whilst there are ample horse-riding opportunities both in the Normandy countryside and along the beach in glorious surroundings.
Further classic seaside towns can also be visited for the day including delightful Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville, all within a 60 to 90-minute drive, or Granville (75km), the birthplace of Christian Dior from where you can catch a ferry out to the wonderful Chausey Islands.
There will also be so many opportunities to try the delicious cuisine and drinks of this region – soak up the ambience at charming markets dotted across idyllic villages, dine in authentic country restaurants, sample fresh seafood along the coast or visit the many Calvados orchards and cellars and learn how this Normandy drink is made.

This was an absolutely perfect location to spend a family new year together. It's a beautiful, very chicly decorated chateau on a peaceful, private site. The owner was responsive and offered detailed instructions on both the house and recommendations on things to do in the area. The property was even better than described. We wouldn't hesitate to go back if the chance comes up.

Thanks the owner so much for sharing their beautiful countryside home. It is truly the perfect place to spend quality family time and make lifelong memories. The chateau architecture combined with the Swedish design make this an elegant and coy home to anyone that has the opportunity to stay here. We will cherish these memories.

A real gem! The chateau is absolutely gorgeous, as soon as you enter the foyer of the chateau you see how much love, hard work and beautiful taste that has been put in. The living room is very cozy and elegant, all the bedrooms are made with beautiful fabric and soft colours, the stone floors are sumptuous, the grand staircase is magnificent and the kitchen is just sublime. We had most of our meals in the kitchen, we loved that room, we would always lid a fire, the fireplace made that room very special and intimate. Beside the fine bedlinen, the nice furniture and the lovely and agreeable bathrooms, even the china was delicate and very pretty. The owner thought about every little detail. After following the owner suggestion, we enjoyed having Chef Lorena preparing us delicious breakfast and dinners, it was a real plus. We hope to come back very soon and this time maybe in the spring time in order to appreciate the blooming season and the superb property grounds. A memorable stay.
