Italy is a country synonymous with decadence, romance, history, art, culture and eroticism. Alongside Rome and Venice, Florence has long been one of the most visited Italian cities. It’s not hard to see why. A relatively compact and easy to navigate city, Florence is a palatable slice of Italy, encapsulating all of the countries mirth, grit, vigour and play. You’ll find yourself in good company as families, friends and couples explore the ins and outs of this fascinating city. Whilst you do the same, Apartment Oro will be your home.
Staying in an apartment is one of the best ways to truly embrace city life. You become part of the pulse of the very city itself, able to adjust to its rhythm and pace. Apartment living is very much living like a local – having Florence on your doorstep ready to explore. Oro is located in the central location of Via Guicciardini. As a result, you’re mere steps from Palazzo Pitti and Ponte Vecchio, two highly esteemed city landmarks.
Your apartment is located on the first floor without elevator and contains a double bedroom, fully equipped kitchenette, relaxation area and bathroom with bathtub and shower. You can also enjoy modern conveniences including Wi-Fi, air conditioning and washing machine. The space is ideal for a couple who want to indulge in the romance of the city, or a pair of friends looking forward to some exploration.
Spacious and modern, the apartment offers a breath of tranquillity to separate you from the aliveness of Florence. It’s a wonderful space to return to after adventuring during the day (or night!). Primarily simple in décor, quirky art works and paintings add a touch of endearing eccentricity. Inviting and comfortable, you’re invited to leave your mark and make yourself at home.
This is an apartment for those who appreciate sophistication and culture. The open plan space invites panoramic living. Eat at the breakfast table with the windows open to draw in the city sounds, sit in bed and watch TV or relax on the sofa with a good book. The space is yours to do as you will. There’s also a slightly separate study area for those who may need to work or revise or who feel inspired to get creative while in town. The kitchen is a wonderful space to rustle up your favourite meals. Why not try some Italian delicacies such as bruschetta? Get ready for bed with side by side sinks – feel free to spread out your toiletries in your own area, and when you need to unwind, grab a bath bomb or some Epsom salts and take a dip in the curved bathtub.
Welcome to your own small slice of Florence – a haven that allows you the perfect opportunity to explore.
Italy is a country that in the minds of many represents love. It has a romantic gravitational pull, perhaps because of its strong culture, history and affection for art. Some of the greatest creative minds have stemmed from Italy or spent time here to hone their craft and be inspired. Florence has earned its place on the world stage and is one of Italy’s most visited cities alongside Rome and Venice.
It's a rather small city, but it has plenty to offer. It’s a wonderful world to immerse yourself in, particularly if you’re an aficionado of art, history and culture. Florence itself is known as the city of lilies. You’ll soon realise why if you visit in Spring. Gorgeous white Florentine iris flowers blossom at this time and can be found everywhere.
Whilst in town, we recommend visiting the famed Duomo of Florence as well as the Piazza della Repubblica. As is the case with all Italian cities, Florence is a wonderful place to get engulfed in. Go for a wander, allow yourself to get lost, people watch and discover the twists and turns of the city, stumbling upon key landmarks at random.
If art is your passion, there are many galleries, all of which offer something memorable and unique. There’s the Uffizi Gallery which boasts numerous paintings and ornate marble sculptures. Make sure you head to The Academia Gallery, Michelangelo’s David, the Pitti and Strozzi palaces and the Santa Croce and Santa Maria Novella Cathedrals. Make sure a gift shop serves as a pit shop, whether you want a magnet as a memento or items crafted from gold or silver.
One of Italy’s most popular extravagances is food – this goes beyond staples such as pizza, pasta and gelato, but these three are some of the most widely known on the world stage. There are many classes you can take to make your own delicious versions of these staples. Pastmania comes highly recommend if you’d like to learn to produce your own pasta.
If you’re more about tasting than making, you must head to the two storey central market where you can make many food purchases, amongst other things. This is a great way to ingratiate yourself into Italian life. Purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, grab an assortment of snacks and graze as you explore, or sit at one of the tables and people watch. The market is a wonderful place to meet with friends or practice some Italian phrases. And, of course, it makes for a delicious experience.
Florence has a huge range of restaurants, many that cater to international palettes as well as more traditional Italian tastes. There are a huge range of classic dishes you might not have heard of including crostini neri, crespelle alla fiorentina and zuccotto so get adventurous with those tastebuds. You’ll know you’ve stumbled across an authentic Italian restaurant when the menu is written in Italian and you notice locals standing and eating – this is common practice throughout Italy and Florence is no exception.
If you’re in town for longer, Florence serves as a wonderful gateway into other areas of Italy including Siena, Pisa, Tuscany and Cinque Terre. Jump on a train and take a day trip to the other wonders of this stunning country. Your apartment awaits your return.
