About this property

Gill Beck Barn is a converted farmhouse stables, boasting views that stretch all the way to the Lake District and the Pennines. The property has a contemporary, open-plan living and kitchen area and is just a short walk from the popular local village inn.

The North West offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in England, and a stay at Gill Beck Barn puts you right at the heart of the scenery. Set in its own enclosed and extensive garden, the property has views of the rolling Pennine fells in one direction and the Lake District National Park in the other. You’re in the perfect place if you enjoy outdoor pursuits like sailing, quad biking or pony trekking, and if you’re a keen walker, there’s everything from rugged mountain hikes to sedate lakeside strolls.

The heart of the property is the large, open plan kitchen and living space, with a wood burning stove and an Aga to keep you cosy and warm. Each of the bedrooms has its own en-suite room and there’s a sandstone patio for a spot of al fresco dining too. The downstairs is completely step-free, so Gill Beck Barn could be ideal for anyone with limited mobility.

The property is set just up the lane from the popular fellside village of Melmerby, with a lovely pub, a village shop and a tea room, as well as independent shops and an indoor pool. If you’d like to venture further afield, the sinuous Ullswater Lake is just 11 miles away, with its historic steamer boats, not to mention the daffodils that inspired the poet William Wordsworth.

Beautiful property in a quiet, peaceful location yet only 2 minutes by car or 15 minutes on foot to the the village, where you will find a pub and toy shop. There is also an excellent bakery which is open seven days a week. This includes a cafe, general provisions and ladies clothing shop. This was our second visit to Gill Beck Barn and we have also stayed in other properties owned by Rowley Estates, as all of their properties deliver the same high standard of accommodation.
