I stayed in Oak Barn from the 15th - 29th July due to the sale of my property completing early and needing somewhere to stay for me and my dog.

On arrival I was really impressed with the location and how immaculate the farm is. I was greeted by Elaine at the farm house who then showed me round the barn, which I must was spotless. The welcome pack in the property was very useful to help me find the local pubs/shops and dog walks, however Elaine was kind enough to let me use the fields, as my Beagle loves his walks. The barn is set over-looking the fields and is peaceful in the day, apart from the usual noises you would expect from a working farm, however these were by no means intrusive. Its amazing watching Elaine's husband working the animals and maintaining the properties. At night the lack of light pollution means on a clear night the stars are amazing and great to sit and look at with a cold beer, its such a lovely place to stay. I must add that on the hottest day ever recorded in the UK there was an issue with a burst water main in the village, obviously this was a one off and not Elaine's problem, however within an hour of me noticing the issue Elaine returned with huge 5ltr bottles of water to make sure me and the dog were ok. This I thought was really considerate considering the family had enough issues trying to keep the animals hydrated. I must say Elaine and her family made me feel very welcome during my 2wk stay, always polite, asking how we were, and with smiles on their faces. The farm is great, the room was perfect for my needs and the local pubs and woodland we wonderful places to visit. I would like to thank Elaine, and her family for their hospitality

The Apple Barn is a little gem.

It is beautifully and thoughtfully presented with plenty of attention to detail. Even the knives for food preparation were sharp (a first for me in holiday cottages). The bed and bed linen are great. Also there were white towels and grey towels so you always knew you were using your own towel. We would have liked more instructions in the booklet about how to dispose of food waste, dry mixed recycling and general rubbish. We were working from home and there is not a lot of space for two work stations but it is a holiday cottage not a live/work space. The wifi connection was excellent. We would happily come again but if we did we would try to book one of the other two units as they have a better view and access to the garden. Neither were available for our dates which were a last minute booking after another owner had let us down by cancelling our stay. We feel very lucky to have been here in the peace and quiet.

Neil had maintained and decorated the cottage to make it a real home from home.

The bed was very comfy. The kitchen was fully equipped for preparing meals. The setting of the cottage is second to none. It was like being transported to a gentler era. We were fortunate to have good weather to be able to sit on the patio and watch the boats and the people pass by. Most people, be they local or visitors, stopped to chat (and to comment on such an idyllic spot). We learned lots about the canal and its workings by talking with the many volunteers who helped with the lock gates. The walks along the canal are easy and pleasurable. The parking is excellent but the winding stairs might be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. We chose it simply as a good centre to visit Althorp, Northampton, Stowe and Bletchley Park - but it was so much more! There was nothing not to like (except, perhaps Neil, that annoying glass lampshade in the lounge!) That aside, thank you for a fabulous stay!

Fantastic location right in the centre of all the fascinating canal activity.

Great pubs literally a stone's throw. Cottage full of character and tastefully decorated. WiFi and Televisions all worked well. Comfy bed. Plumbing and heating worked well too. Adequate parking right behind the property. Kitchen facilities very good. There were a few negatives but these did not in any way spoil our holiday and are included as they could simply and easily be rectified: The Velux skylight should be fitted with a blind else you're awakened at about 4.30am by the sunlight this time of the year. The bathroom washbasin tap assembly is alarmingly loose. The glass lounge light fitting is suspended at about 5'5" above the floor and banging your head on it becomes a daily annoyance. One of the front doorstep paving slabs is loose (and could be dangerous). All in all, this cottage is a little gem and is thoroughly recommended. Thank you very much.

We have had a lovely relaxing stay at Canal side Cottage.

The cottage was warm, cosy clean and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. We enjoyed watching the activity on the canal and people were very friendly, lovely woodland walks a really beautiful part of the country. The Boat Inn a nice pub serving good food and a shop where you could get any essentials needed, lovely Ice Cream, friendly staff, Canal Museum very interesting, nice cafe and the canal shop and Charlie who runs the boat trips all very friendly. It was nice to meet our Host Neil who certainly has chosen a lovely part of the country with the location of the cottage we wish him well for the future. We will return hopefully soon. Once again many thanks to Neil. Colin & Gwen Basingstoke Hampshire.
