What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ben - Verified booking

My wife an I stayed at the property for the last week in October half term 2024.

We chose to book the Friday to Friday because the price difference like everything goes up by alot for half term, the Saturday to Saturday was going to cost alot more. We arrived on Saturday morning, we had no choice but to loose a day already because of work commitments. We were a little disappointed, we had our towels changed because the ones already in the property had old make up stains on them. Every single blind covering windows had damaged shutters on. There was marks all up some of the walls like someone had dragged a suitcase across it. But most of the walls in the property had marks or scratches on them. Make up hand prints on the walls in the bathroom. The floor was a state, all round the edging of the laminate/tiled style flooring in kitchen that went into the bathroom was all chipped and worn away. Inside the draw under the wash basin in the bathroom looked liked it had something burned/spilt into it. The coffee table in the sitting room had horrible black marks all over it, and what looked like chunks of wood chipped out of it. The ceiling light hanging down in the sitting room looked like it was hanging off. Not all lights for the outside porch area were working. The fencing on the decking behind the hot tub had broken slats hanging down. Plant pots with weeds growing in them which just made it all look really run down. However, we didn't allow it to effect our holiday, and we can't fault the staff, we made the ladies on reception aware straight away because the last thing we wanted was to receive an email to pay a house keeping charge after the holiday, and luckily we did as they made us aware that they were ONLY aware of ONE blind being damaged. But the ladies were really lovely and understanding, they took note of everything we had mentioned. The area itself where the lodge is was lovely, very quiet and secluded. But the big question, would we stay there again? And a simple answer would be no :( and it's such a shame because in the pictures it looked amazing. We just feel that for the money that we paid, it just wasn't worth it. If we had paid for the Saturday to Saturday, I think it would of been more upsetting for us because of the extra amount of money wanted for that week.

Firstly we would like to say that the setting and site is absolutely lovely and peaceful and that the lodge generally is very nice and also well equipped.

Sadly however, what could have been a fantastic 4 night break was let down by what appeared to be a total lack of attention to detail. One of the key factors for us in choosing a lodge is a hot tub. Unfortunately we were met with a virtually cold tub and after several visits to reception the matter was finally sorted such that it was just under 24 hours after our arrival that the hot tub became usable meaning that this key facility was absent for 25% of our stay. The cleanliness was not as good as we have seen at other lodge sites we have stayed at. Much of the cutlery was dirty and had to be rewashed, the kitchen surfaces were very sticky and it seemed the cleaners had done very little cleaning - they had even failed to see a pair of socks lying in the middle of the bedroom floor!! The foam cushions on the outside seating had all been left out in the rain and were therefore totally unusable so, in conjunction with the hot tub issue, this meant that our outdoor space was basically unusable for much of the time which was extremely disappointing. This was reported shortly after arrival but we were told nothing could be done. The plug in the ensuite bathroom wash basin wouldn't stay down rendering it useless. It was reported but never fixed. On more subjective matters, which are preferences and observations rather than complaints, we found the mattress on the double bed to be very uncomfortable. We can see from previous feedbacks that this has been mentioned before but seemingly never addressed. The main bedroom also has a skylight with a blind that seemed to be stuck part way across (and beyond reach) that meant that by about 5 am the bedroom was drenched in daylight making sleep very difficult. Finally the site reception never seems to be open at the advertised times - a complaint echoed by several other people queuing outside at the same time as us and when we phoned the number given it remained unanswered which was very frustrating.

My mother and I stayed here recently for a few days.

When we arrived we were so taken aback with how beautiful this place this. The wooden lodge is very attractive and blends in with it’s surroundings. The location is extremely pretty. It is exactly like the photos, although I would say it is not as close to the fields as it appears in the photos. We liked the location because it was out in the countryside, quiet, peaceful, pretty and secluded. We were situated beside a small woods which I enjoyed watching and listening to the birds appear from. We were surrounded by shrubs and bushes which were really pretty. Faraway fields is very well thought out. The lodge was clean (bar the odd cobweb), the interior was to a high standard, yet cosy but with plenty of space for the 2 of us. The main eating/ relaxing area was light, airy and spacious. We appreciated that we were given a bottle of milk for a cup of tea when we arrived, and liked this thoughtful touch. The hot tub was amazing, perfect temperature and we were in there a lot! However, not all the jets worked which was a shame. The master bedroom suited me well, beautiful bathroom, dressing area & wardrobe with a nice amount of luxury hangers. Unfortunately the bed was not a king size, but 2 twins put together so please be aware of this as it is not the most comfortable with a gap in the middle so can’t move around a lot. There was some paint coming off the corner wall in the master, which looked a bit shabby. The twin beds in the other bedroom my mother said we’re uncomfortable (she tried both) and asked me to lie in them to see if it was just her. However I too, felt a dip in the bed. The host in reception were polite, friendly and helpful but also left us to enjoy our stay which was much appreciated. We were undisturbed by our neighbours and didn’t hear a thing from them which was lovely and made our stay all the more relaxing. We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked another for next year.

This Property was very nice to stay at.

We booked it for 4 nights and wish we could’ve stayed longer. The area was quiet and you were left undisturbed. The property included everything you needed, would’ve been nice if there was some board games at the property- would’ve added a nice touch but really isn’t something I would complain about. The property was in a lovely, clean and welcoming state which made you appreciate the lodge. Everything worked as it should’ve, the hot tub was all clean and ready for when we arrived. We were greeted with a nice welcoming box which included: sugar, tea, biscuits, cloth and sponge for cleaning and dishwashing tablets- 1 for each night we stayed. It was nice having doors that opened right onto the decking where the hot tub was situated. This meant you didn’t have to walk around to the front door in the cold. The hot tub was sheltered by a roof which was nice if it started to rain whilst you were in there and included lights that lit up the outside hot tub area. The bed was comfy and the closet included plenty of storage area for your belongings. The sofa was comfortable and the TV was a good big size for watching movies and unwinding. The kitchen area was very smart and included everything you would need. The bathroom area was modern and relaxing- the only pointer I would pick out was the silicon sealant around the top of the bath tub where the taps were wasn’t fully sealed and looked like it needed resealing. Overall this property was very nice and I would honestly come back and stay again for sure. Thanks for having me.

We had a great time here, the lodge was the one on the end of a row, felt like you were in a treehouse with the trees outside the decking.

We arrived early and decided to have a drink in the bar, sat outside on the decking overlooking the pond, very peaceful and lucky for us the sun was out and we had some ducklings come around the pond to watch. We headed down to the lodge after this, easy access to the lodge and was pleasantly surprised with the size once inside of the lodge.bedrooms were roomy, very soft mattresses. We ordered some food for collection, this was done via email as there is no phone signal at all, WiFi was great though, so phone calls home done via WiFi. Side note, the burger was the best I've had for some time, highly recommend getting this. The menu for the rest of the week wasn't to our liking, alot of fish, but we were out and about anyway. So much to see on the doorstep with walks. The rescue / zoo was a good day out. The lost gardens of heligan is a must see. Back to the lodge. Unfortunately there was quite alot of marks on the floor, walls and cupboards. There was a black mildew around the kitchen sink, not the best design of sink, But must stress this did not detract from our stay, we had a great time. The hot tub was great to relax in after being out all day, a bit too hot on first day but was sorted straight away on asking maintenence the next morning. Will definitely be booking in the future.
