What our customers say about their holidays

    • Eugene - Verified booking

This is our third consecutive stay at this cottage and never had a problem or felt the need to contact the owner.

But on this occasion we had no hot water. We are a family of three two adults and an eight year old boy. We had one shower each in the morning. Then went out and cycled the Mawddach on the wettest day of the stay as you can tell we got dirty. Got back expecting a nice warm shower only to find no hot water. Called the owner who was not interested all she could say was had we had excessive showers today and that the heating is on a timer and should be on by now and that she is away and if there is no hot water the next day to call her. I was not happy with her response if you have put the water on a timer and you only get one tank of hot water a day should you not let your guest know this in advance as this has not been the case previously. Luckily my wife's parents live in Harlech and we could go and get a hot shower there which was an inconvenience to us all. Yes the hot water did come back on but we felt from that day we needed to restrict our hot water usage and when you are told that you need a shower before using the hot tub it is very off putting and did affect our enjoyment of this cottage. It would of been nice to of had a follow up courtesy call back but nothing. Also found the cleanliness of the cottage not up to its usual standard it looked like it had just been wiped over rather than cleaned. Cobb webs everywhere. I get this is a country cottage but the cobwebs had been there a while as the spiders were very dead as were the ones in bedside drawers. Bathroom shower did not drain properly but felt it would fall on deaf ears if I reported it. Also on the Friday the maintenance guy just turned up and did not even introduce himself. He came to cut the lawn but we felt we could not use the garden for the two and half hours he was there. It also happened to be the one morning we could of used the garden to its full potential which is one of the reasons we go to this cottage. Is this not a job for change over day especially as he was there just as early on the Saturday to clean the hot tub for the next guests. The TV in the lounge is on its way out with lines running through it, could watch it but once again why report it. Bin in kitchen broken bowl in sink broken all things easily replaced drain outside blocked. Dead hedgehog on the drive on arrival. Don't think the hot tub chemicals were checked or topped up in the middle of our stay as stated in the hot tub instructions. Can't believe the difference between this review and the first that we left in May 2022.

We have stayed in Minydon before, it's lovely to walk out the door and see the sea.

The first impression of the property - the Front door is shoddy and the weatherboard broken. The porch is good for hanging up wet coats etc The living room feels dark and gloomy especially with the black beams and the large black hearth and black TV stand. The hearth is far too long to have a settee next to it, you have to be careful walking past especially if you're a little unsteady. The hearth could be reduced to the width of the Fire Surround it would give more space. The Dining area is great, roomy with lots of light whether eating food or playing games. The kitchen is well equipped, but the markings on the cooker have faded/rubbed off and we had to check in the book to see what they represented. The Air Fryer worked really well. It would be nice to have a dishwasher, as some of the plates etc were not too clean, the changeover of people is so large it would be much more hygienic. Under the sink is not too crowded maybe one could fit there.. Bathroom ok. Bedrooms were ok. The book left for information needs updating, the instructions for waste disposal needs a calendar as we put out the bins on the Wednesday evening but they weren't collected, is collection fortnightly? The heating was a bit hit and miss ie not coming on first thing or at night when you needed some heat, and some of the radiators had cold spots. It was a bit haphazard. The water was always hot whenever you needed it. Games room an asset! The garden was fine but maybe some shrubs could do with heavy pruning, especially as you first go on to garden. The Pampas leaves are like razor blades if young children are staying please be aware. Lovely views from Dining area whether it was sunny or rainy. Over all a lovely place to stay, just needs a little TLC

The location of the bungalow is its greatest asset being a minute from the sea and with a backdrop of Snowdonia.

The bungalow was clean and three of the bedrooms are light attractive rooms - the fourth's window overlooks the lean-to area and is a dark room. The kitchen is largely well equipped and overlooks the garden which is large and dog friendly with lots of seating. However, there is no bin in the kitchen - there is a dustbin in the lean-to area which reached by going down two steep steps. The mattress on the bed in the green bedroom really has reached the end of it's useful life ( I can't comment on the other beds / mattresses) and the furniture in the dining / living area is oversized and makes the space very cramped. There is a lovely view from the dining area but the lounge is dark , made worse by the very large black leather furniture. The only lighting is overhead with one uplighter which leans at a precarious angle. I found the room quite depressing in the evenings. Additional side lights would help enormously but there is no space for them. The front of the house needs some attention and tlc. The bungalow is best suited to four adults and two children and with some extra love and attention could be a perfect holiday home in a great location

The cottage was lovely and in an ideal spot and we were welcomed with a lovely welcome pack which was much appreciated.

First impressions were that the cottage was lovely and clean, nice towels and bed linen. The bed was very comfortable. In the kitchen there was every appliance/utensil wise that we needed. The sandwich maker was very marked so we didn't use that. There was an odour in the kitchen, around the oven area that wasn't particularly nice, we couldn't ascertain what it was it where it came from. We had a fly infestation up in the small landing toilet so maybe a supply of fly spray would have been handy, even though I hate using spray it would have been useful on this occasion. Luckily we had kept the door shut so they were mainly confined to that room although somehow they did make they way into the bathroom next to it. The water from the shower in the bath was very slow draining and when I checked on the last day as I was cleaning the bath I saw that the slow drainage was due to a clogged up plughole. This might be worth checking now and again to ensure water drains freely. The patio outside was lovely, had the sun and the sound of the running stream and birdsong was just idyllic, very restful. We were visited by several species of birds on the bird feeder including a regular woodpecker. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

This was our 5th stay at Minydon and as usual it was a lovely peaceful break.

It wasn't quite as quiet as usual due to the film crew in the village filming a new series for Sky TV apparently. Over the years there have been many little improvements to the cottage, which is clean, warm and comfortable with a lovely welcome pack and many little extras. The beds are much better with the new mattresses, but could perhaps do with some new quilts. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the airfyer is especially useful. Minydon is in a good location for exploring that part of Wales, with many local attractions within easy traveling distance. We enjoy the proximity to the beach which enables us and the dogs to walk for miles. There is a selection of DVD's and games in the cottage and a separate games room which to be honest we didn't use this year but it would be good to help entertain children in bad weather. The garden is lovely and sunny and with the addition of the new fencing is safe and secure for the dogs.Perhaps some pruning is required as the trees and pampas grass are beginning to spoil the lovely views of the hills. The only negative issues really are all the curtain rails could do with some attention and the exterior of the property is looking a bit sad especially the front door.
