What our customers say about their holidays

    • Colleen - Verified booking

On arrival front of cottage scruffy with weeds, window boxes also dead with weeds!

No welcome package, (1st time ever on Sykes cottage) the room seems over cluttered and no cupboard for our food we had bought. The tiny conservatory at the back was full of tiny flies and the manhole cover banged when going to back door! TV not working, no folder with details of how things worked within the cottage or where the washer was? the fridge is tiny with big freezer section above, if any problem, no phone number! had to call Sykes who where extremely helpful and contacted the owner. Who in turn tried to explain how to get the TV on! still struggling, finally sorted the following afternoon! Meaning, having to wait in the cottage, instead of going to the beach! One thing you really expect is Comfort, sad to say this was completely missing here, the sofa under the stairs, when I sat on it I felt like I was sitting on the floor! Really struggling to get up off this sofa, the second one near TV was so hard and when 2 people were sitting on it , you sunk towards the centre! and again uncomfortable. Checking under cushions this sofa is a sofa bed! The stairs are high and narrow step and steep, prayed the rope on the wall was strong! The double bed was hard as nails! was in agony morning after, at this time I wanted to go home!!! We ended up sleeping on top of the duvet! but still awful weeks sleep! Plus a huge box at bottom of bed (why, taking up a lot space! empty space under the bunk beds) The shower unit could do with a good bleaching! Criccieth is lovely and we had the best weather, but would not be rebooking Menuchah cottage, really spoilt our week’s holiday.

The cottage was clean and tidy, it has everything you need for your stay.

A great location to explore Llyn Peninsula.  Location on main street of village, but quite enough as not a throughfare route as village bypassed. My only frustration was asking a question the day before arrival. I called the number provided and was directed to getting a text messge back. I have booked through Sykes and found them to be ok. On this occasion not so. I will leave you to judge for yourself below the text message comms below. Menia Holiday Cottages, seem to be part of Sykes but for Wales only. My message to Menia Can you confirm Ivy House has a fridge/ freezer as per pictures and not just a icebox in a fridge. From Menia the follwing day. Hi. You are speaking with Andrew. Just so that I can pass data protection can I take your full name and booking reference please? My message to Menia As you took nearly a day to reply not great service. I was already travelling to cottage. I had with me the relevant info, address and combination for keysafe. Hiding behind Data protection, oh my god. I only wanted to know fridge info which the photo is open for the world to see. Thank you for lack of info. Read again on feedback about the property. Auto response from Menia Hi, thanks for contacting us today about your holiday! We have received your message and will get back to you as soon as we can. Finally no follow up from Menia Holiday Cottages

      Great stay at Bro Mebyd.

Lovely bungalow in a fabulous location. Loved the conservatory and garden. Just a few things I feel would enhance the home. It’s definitely in need of a thorough clean, inside of the front window is marked with dog nose prints and the window frames are very dirty in places. The shower room wall tiles are grubby and have evidence of dried soap lather on them from previous renters. The double glazed units in the bungalow are misted inside and have condensation in them as they’ve broken down, more noticeable in the front in the evening sun, these need replacing - it spoils the view of the lovely garden too. Concise information regarding what recycling goes in each bin is needed - I had to run after the bin men on the Friday morning as they wouldn’t take the full box of glass bottles as the previous people had put an aerosol can in there. Access to washing/drying facilities I feel is essential on holidays. There were no extra blankets if required. This is the first holiday accommodation we’ve stayed in and not been left welcoming goodies. All said though we did have a lovely holiday and just a few improvements could make Bro Mebyd perfect.

We stayed from 27th September for a week and found it to be a mixture of good and bad.

On the good side it was clean and very spacious for 4 people. We liked the new sofas and the conservatory gave good additional space. On the not so good side, the double bedroom was damp and had mildew all over the wall behind the bed, not good as two of us have asthma. Also in that room one of the bedside lights didn’t work. We tried changing the bulb but it still didn’t work. The central heating was erratic and tended to be off in the middle of the day and very hot in the middle of the night. We wonder if a previous power outage may have messed with the timer? We do like to cook on holiday and were very disappointed that there were only small pans, nothing large enough to cook for 4 adults. We ended up getting our own pans. There wasn’t a large serving spoon or ladle either. The single beds were both pretty uncomfortable. On a minor point we were left only 3 bath towels not 4. Although this is quite a long list of negatives, the location was great and we had a good time.

We had a great holiday at Bro Mebyd the cottage is in a great position and ideal for the beach, local walks and the many shops, bars, restaurants and cafes on the High Street.

After reading other reviews I was surprised that hardly anyone had mentioned the short cut to the High Street. Just 3 properties further down the street there is a pathway, if you keep to the left, that will lead you over the pedestrian level crossing and on up to the High Street, just an easy ten minute walk. This pathway also leads you, in the opposite direction, to the bowling green and mini golf. There is also a play area for children and a football field. The cottage, all be it very spacious only has 2 small sofa's which are not very comfortable to relax in and would benefit from an upgrade. The conservatory is much better for relaxing but there's no TV in there. The shower head in the main bathroom needs changing and the outlet for the second shower overflows. While we were there we discovered a wasp nest in the shed, where the outdoor seating is stored, a big thank you to Amanda at Menai Holiday Cottages for sorting this out the same day for us.
