We only really booked Canal Cottages as we needed a base close to Milton Keynes to work from whilst our son attended a hockey camp but what a find!

Iâll start with the negatives and whilst there are a few they genuinely are just niggly âfiner detailâ points. The kitchen and bathroom, whilst ok on the surface could both do with a deep clean. The dryer doesnât work at all. Despite full drawers simple things like scissors, baking trays and a pizza cutter are not available and the bathroom sink struggles to drain. Iâm a sucker for a welcome pack of which there wasnât one and although tea, coffee and sugar were available they were already opened leaving one unsure whose spoon has been dipping in there before. I appreciate this is personal choice but I would prefer sachets or unopened packs. The stairs, whilst not a problem for us should definitely be mentioned in the description of the cottage. Theyâre tough going and we all had burning thighs by the end of the week. The directions are terrible and whilst most people probably arrive in the light, we didnât and an additional âturn left straight after the bridge into the India restaurant car parkâ would have saved us 50 minutes of wandering round at almost midnight wondering if we should just find a travel lodge. HOWEVER, as I said, minor niggles because the location of Canal Cottages is out of this world. There is everything you could possible need around you in less than 100yards. Itâs probably one of the most relaxing places weâve stayed and you can literally feel lifeâs stresses leaving your body as you watch the barges manage the locks and the holidays makers stroll by from the small terrace out front. The house itself is charming and cosy with history seeping through the walls. The master bed is probably the comfiest Iâve ever slept on, the addition of a fan is an excellent call and the views from all the windows are stunning. Despite Canal Cottages falling short of a 10/10 we would return in a heartbeat.

Lovely and well presented cottage with a well equipped kitchen.

The cottage was very clean and perfect for our short (2 night stay). It was a good location with easy access to the M40 and easily accessible to Warwick and Leamington Spa as well as the popular Cotswold tourist areas and walks around Broadway, Stratford on Avon, Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold etc. The bed was probably one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in for a long time. The country park access is within walking distance of about 200 metres of the cottage albeit a bit of a steep climb into the park or a Â£3 parking charge but well worth the exercise each morning. The only criticism would be the lack of a coat rack, but fortunately for us we had good weather so leaving coats on the back of the chairs was not too much of a problem and the fact that the garden is not secure for the dog so he had to be supervised throughout the stay on the lead in the garden for fear of running onto the road. Was lacking an information pack on rubbish and recycling for the cottage and followed what the neighbouring cottage had done. Limited leaflet information and a information on walks in the local area with maps would be helpful to future guests as these we had to find on-line but often without the benefit of maps unless we signed up to various websites.

Overall it was a really nice place, and friendly and helpful owners.

We really enjoyed ourselves. Just a few suggestions for the future: Having a really good internet connection is so important these days, especially with the covid-19 pandemic. People want to work from home and when on holiday, and some will rent a place simply to work the whole week, as a break from home. So while we eventually got the internet to work, (the difficulty was that the security password wasn't written down accurately) we weren't sure how reliable it was. I would put some effort in to make sure it is reliable and fast and can then be advertised on the listing as a feature. We had to ask if internet was available when booking - it should be seen as a key feature. A clearer and cleaner sign at the entrance to the farm would make a better initial impression than the current one, and perhaps a few arrows as you near the buildings to direct you to the cottages. We found them OK, but it was a bit of guesswork the first time. But overall a great place to stay

We have spent a super week at Granary Cottage which we really enjoyed.

The property was bright, airy, spotlessly clean and very well equipped with everything we needed (for us and our dog). The owner Mary was extremely welcoming and helpful. We originally booked because of its location next to Burton Dassett Hills (stunning views and lovely walks!) and we were attending an event at the nearby British Motor Museum on the Sunday but also found Granary Cottage very convenient to explore Stratford upon Avon and other delightful spots the Cotswold has to offer - Morton on Marsh (loved Batsford Arboretum), Bourton on the Water, Chipping Norton, Broadway etc. There's a good range of (dog friendly) places to eat locally with excellent food and locals ready to have a chat! Can personally particularly recommend The Malt Shovel Inn in Gaydon, The Yew Tree at Avon Dassett and The Wharf Inn in Fenny Compton (by the canal and charming!) We can highly recommend Granary Cottage and hope to be back soon.

Neil had maintained and decorated the cottage to make it a real home from home.

The bed was very comfy. The kitchen was fully equipped for preparing meals. The setting of the cottage is second to none. It was like being transported to a gentler era. We were fortunate to have good weather to be able to sit on the patio and watch the boats and the people pass by. Most people, be they local or visitors, stopped to chat (and to comment on such an idyllic spot). We learned lots about the canal and its workings by talking with the many volunteers who helped with the lock gates. The walks along the canal are easy and pleasurable. The parking is excellent but the winding stairs might be a problem for anyone with mobility issues. We chose it simply as a good centre to visit Althorp, Northampton, Stowe and Bletchley Park - but it was so much more! There was nothing not to like (except, perhaps Neil, that annoying glass lampshade in the lounge!) That aside, thank you for a fabulous stay!
