What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Richard Bell - Verified booking

I find relatively little difference between the services offered by different holiday cottage companies, so would hesitate to recommend any ones in particular. Our choice of company is determined by the specific properties they have available. I would mention some points that I feel need addressing at Reeve Cottage. (1) The shower head is in desperate need of either descaling or replacement. (2) Three out of four of the electric heaters are different models from the one covered by the owner's handbook that was provided. They appeared to be only adjustable remotely, via an app. Because the weather was cool for most of our stay, we would have liked to have been able to turn up the heaters' temperature a little but were unable to do so. (3) I note that you recommend that guests' cars are reversed into the parking space. I think you need to specify that they must be reversed in. My car (a Toyota Prius) could only negotiate the access in reverse and then only by driving through the overgrown shrubs on the eastern side of the access route. (An initial attempt to enter the car park in forward gear proved absolutely impossible, due to the geometry of the route). If the car parking space is to be a selling point for Reeve Cottage then the vegetation needs to be cut right back to the boundary wall. In the event, it was such a hassle using the parking space that we parked our car across at the Village Hall most of the time (which I know you mention as an alternative but wouldn't have been necessary if the access route to Reeve's own parking space had been better maintained).

The fact that I didn’t score top marks for each of the categories didn’t detract from our enjoyment.

The location of this cottage is amazing if you like peace and quiet . If you want a ‘quick pop to the shop ‘ maybe not as good although there are plenty of supermarkets about 20 minutes away ( by car). Being in the forest at this time of year was a joy . Lots of opportunities to park and walk for hour. The garden is on a couple of levels with some interesting nooks and crannies . It felt completely secure for our dog to investigate. Surrounding towns / villages are very dog friendly and we were made welcome everywhere. (Try Alex Gooch in Monmouth). The cottage itself had all that we needed but for me the sofas were a bit tired and didn’t offer my dodgy back enough support . I realise that is something personal to me and maybe other guests would be fine. At home we rarely get the opportunity to watch television so it was a bonus to have a television that worked as described in the holiday listing . Very often, listings say ‘smart tv’ but channels are very restricted . However this was not the case at Anvil Cottage.

Lovely cottage which is ideally placed on the High Street in Blakeney. Very comfortable beds and sofas and well equipped kitchen, although bijou, was very well stocked and we loved the welcome basket of goodies. We had great weather so we were out and about for most of the day but this would also be the ideal cottage if the weather was not so great as the log fire was good and the TV had all the channels as well as Netflix. Good central heating so nice and warm in the evening as well. Very good support from Original Cottages if anything is needed/goes wrong which is important. Blakeney is ideally placed for great beaches and walks and the village has very good bakery/pubs and cafes as well as a decent deli only a few doors up from the cottage.

The cottage was beautiful and so cosy.

We were welcomed with a card and chocolates left on the table. As we had a dog, they even had a fully equipped dog bag with blankets and bowls. Extremely clean and tidy. Owner, Nigel, introduced himself the next day, very friendly and welcoming. There was a book made up with guidance in case of problems, and it was also filled with sightseeing areas, pubs and restaurants locally, which we lovingly called ‘our bible’. Could not fault this break or property. One of the loveliest places we have ever stayed. Will definitely be booking again, although 6 days was not long enough, will definitely be booking for longer. Wanted to pick the cottage up and take it with us! 5 stars and 11/10 ☺️

    • Mrs Goldwater - Verified booking

The house is lovely and in a good location, especially if you have a dog. There are super dog walks within a couple of minutes from the house. The kitchen is great, with all you need to prepare your own meals. The living area is comfortable. The bedrooms are spacious with exceptionally firm beds. There were 2x bathrooms, but sadly only one of the showers was working. There is no parking by the house, but you can park in the Parish Hall carpark for free which is a 2 minute walk - you can load/unload the car near the path to the house. There is a little Spar should 2 mins walk away, also need a pub, The King's Arms which does nice food.
