What our customers say about their holidays

    • Elizabeth - Verified booking

We had a fabulous holiday at Longside, the Barn Conversion was clean, modern and very comfortable.

The grounds are so spacious and the countryside views are amazing to us town dwellers. It was so quiet and peaceful and to sit in the garden was a joy. The owner had provided footballs and nets for those who wanted to use them as well as plenty of other games. We were left fresh milk, Welsh cakes and flowers. A short walk or drive down the narrow lane from the property led you to the centre of Gilwern with good pubs and local stores. We walked up to the top of Sugarloaf after parking in the National Trust car park. This area of Wales is a favorite for us and we will return to Longside I'm sure.

I was attracted by the mezzanine, not that I knew what it meant until I got there!

When I saw the picture of the open plan upstairs, I knew my kids would love it and I wasn't wrong. Everything was as described and more. The blurb failed to mention the great owner Simon who is at hand to help with whatever is needed and fully accommodating. My children were allowed to make use of the bikes (as long as they wore the helmets!) and toy tractor and enjoyed the beautiful grounds. The view of Sugar Loaf mountain was beautiful - what a change from where we come from. We look forward to visiting again - thank you Simon!

Flowers on the table, Welsh cakes and milk in the fridge to welcome us.

A lovely, well equipped and beautifully furnished cottage. Set in a splendid location at the foot of the Brecon Beacons but with easy access to good roads this cottage would suit keen walkers or those just wanting to sit back and relax. The only minus point is that the wifi is very poor; not necessarily a bad thing for those wanting to get away from it all. ***Owners Response*** Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I can bow confirm that the WiFi issue has since been addressed

We had a lovely holiday at Longside.

The accommodation is the best we have stayed in. Very high spec and very well equipped. The surroundings are lovely especially with overlooking Sugar Loaf mountain which we climbed! The owners were very nice and helpful. The only thing I would say is that it would benefit from having a dishwasher as with having 5 people staying it mounted up quite quickly. Really good holiday. We will be returning at some point.

Fantastic warm welcome from Simon showing us around the beautiful cottage.

Comfy beds and fab kitchen with useful shoe/coat storage area. Our children loved playing football in the garden and exploring the farmland. Fantastic location for exploring the Brecon Beacons. Would recommend Big Pit coal mine (free entry) and Sgwd-yr-Eira Waterfall where you can walk behind the actual falls....simply amazing! A brilliant holiday, loved by us all, we didn't want to leave.

    Big Pit National Coal Museum

Big Pit National Coal Museum is an industrial heritage museum in Blaenavon, Torfaen, Wales. It was a working coal mine from 1880 to 1980, then was opened to the public in 1983 as a charitable trust.

    Tretower Castle & Court

This architectural wonder spans 900 years of history. Tretower is two wonders in one as just across the castle green lies an entire medieval court that became a byword for magnificence. You'll find the great hall set up just as if it were for a lavish feast in the 1460s. A recreated 15th century garden contains fragrant white roses that represent Sir Roger's passionate Yorkist sympathies. Mostly accessible for wheelchair users, dogs on leads welcome, gift shop, refreshments, picnic tables, toilets, child friendly.
