What our customers say about their holidays

    • Dee - Verified booking

This is a total one-off, quirky gem of a holiday cottage.

We loved the cosiness and appreciated the thought that had gone into fitting so much into such a small place. It worked perfectly for us and our small dog. We loved the decor, the comfortable bed, the warm shower and the well equipped kitchen. We are not used to such huge TVs or to streaming services, so probably did not make full use of these. The fast broadband/wifi was appreciated. I would have given five stars across the board, but there were just a few things that did not work or were missing, in particular the hooks for the outdoor seating shelf. This would have been lovely on a sunny evening, so we were disappointed not to find them where they were supposed to be. And not to have a hairdryer seems strange. Otherwise, a really lovely place to stay for a few nights. Bradwell is friendly and conveniently located, and we love the fact that it is a proper village and not full of tourists. The precipitous slopes take some getting used to after the Cambridgeshire fens!! Thank you for the welcome goodies. We hope to come back; thank you.

Lovely little cottage with lots of potential.

A few minor issues but worth noting. The soap dispenser in the bathroom was empty so we had to buy our own hand soap not a major issue but I would expect it to be available for us. There was no toilet brush or shower curtain. No washing up sponges provided in the kitchen, just a flannel which wasn't ideal. Appreciate the cottage is old but there are a lot of cobwebs that have blatantly been there for a while and could be dealt with a duster, just makes the place look a little unkempt. Someone's old contact lenses were left on the bedside table which wasn't nice either. Seems there is a lack of attention to detail here compared to other cottages we have stayed at for a similar price. The host did leave us some milk and biscuits which was lovely. It would be good for future guest for the kitchen to have some oil, tin foil, kitchen roll etc. Again something we have had in other stays for a similar price. Overall a pleasant stay, lovely cottage just needs some tweaks from the hosts and it could be amazing.

Amazing! What a absolute gem of a cottage.

It was so well thought out with walkers and dogs in mind. Clean, comfortable beds, lovely rooms, excellently equipped and a generous little welcome hamper. We had a lovely week at Hope Cottage. We wanted to stay forever and we’re sad to leave. It was so warm. The owners certainly don’t skimp on the heating, which was greatly appreciated. The underfloor heating in the conservatory was fantastic. Our little dogs absolutely loved it. Especially good to come in around the back door to take off boots/shoes. The boot brushes outside and the hosepipe again… great for boots and dogs.. then straight into the conservatory to dry off. Castleton is beautiful. Lots of pubs and cafes. Lots of excellent circular walks from the village meant we only used our car once. Thanks for a holiday that will live in our memories for years. We have already booked up to go again next March!

      Small but mighty!

Super well appointed cottage with everything we needed for a wet week in the hills. We stayed with three adults, two kids and a dog. The owners were very generous leaving welcome gifts and plenty of tea towels, hand towels, dishwasher tablets, detergent and cleaning products which when you have a family are essential. We ate at the restaurant 1530 twice and a few of the pubs in the area. The cottage couldn’t have been more perfectly located with a fabulous route to Mam Tor literally on the door step. Just remember to duck your head if you have a tall person staying or take a hard hat this is a traditional derbyshire cottage! You won’t be disappointed with your stay. Thanks to Fiona for a lovely time and sorry we were a bit late in leaving we totally underestimated how much stuff we had!

Stayed for a week over Christmas and had the best time.

Incredibly well equipped. As we were there over Christmas and local facilities were mostly shut we cooked everything in the cottage. As it was just for 2 people I had taken items I thought I'd need to achieve a Christmas lunch but didn't need any of what I'd taken. As described the cottage is cosy and quirky but despite its size it's had so much thought put into storage and use of space. Bradwell is a fantastic, welcoming village and we felt more at home than we do in our own village. Our elderly dog had a wonderful time and was made a fuss of everywhere we went especially in The White Hart pub where he always got a biscuit and a bowl of water. Beautiful countryside, cosy, comfortable cottage and fantastic people gave us a wonderful Christmas. Would definitely stay again, thank you
