What our customers say about their holidays

    • James - Verified booking

We have just spent the Easter weekend at Dingle Den, 2 adults, two boys (a 12 year old and a 14 year old) and a 2 year old Labrador.

We were greeted so warmly by all of our names (even the dogs) and lent some walking books after enquiring in advance about local walks. Our dog is a nervous fella and Jo was very understanding and kept her very well behaved dog away and showed us how everything worked and we felt straight at home. The Den is finished to a really high standard and was immaculately clean. Complimentary logs, fire lighters, biscuits, tea, coffee and water made settling in really easy. There was also washing up liquid, hand soap, towels and tea towels. We brought food (and water because you can’t drink the tap water) with us for our stay and there is a big enough fridge and storage. We barbecued on the fire pit in the evening which was great and sat on the logs around it to eat, one morning was warm enough to eat breakfast on the picnic table outside the Den doors which is a lovely option. The private space that comes with the Den is so much bigger than photos can do justice to. It is vast and beautiful. Although we were expecting a stream from reading the reviews we weren’t expecting the amount of stream and the little waterfalls and it really made it for us. The boys (who are normally stuck to a screen) loved exploring it and the dog thought all of his Christmases had come at once! We could have happily not left the Den at all for the 3 days (we played boules and football and did an Easter egg hunt and mooched about the grounds) but we did venture out and the walks are beautiful and quiet. Walking boots at this time of year are essential. One days weather was very wet but when we got back from our walk the Den was warm and cozy and just looking out the doors at the view was lovely. With no TV and no WiFi I caught up on some reading (the kids had some signal on their phones so survived in our down time) We specifically chose Dingle Den because it was remote and we wanted to be able to take our dog who can’t cope with strangers and it was absolutely perfect for recharging in a relaxing environment and we really hope to return (but maybe without the kids next time

      What can I say.

This was just a lovely stay. I was made to feel so welcome. I came here with my little puppy to havesome time away without my children. A much-needed break was just what was required. My puppy loved the surrounding gardens and the donkey. The Cow Cott was just perfect for my needs. Very peaceful and relaxing and listening to nature at its best. I received a handmade cake on arrival, plus chocolate biscuits, Cadburys mini chocolates, a bottle or red wine and even some treats for my puppy. I was totally blown away. There was also coffee, tea, salt and pepper, cooking oil, cleaning equipment’s, tea towels, eye masks, you name it, it was there. The Wi-Fi was amazing. In the description it mentions its only for browsing, but I was able to watch Netflix, apple tv and you tube, TikTok with no issues from my mobile using the Wi-Fi. There is a lovely electric fire, but there is also heating as well. The bed was so comfortable. Everything was to a high spec. There is another fridge and freeze in the outbuilding if needed, but I didn’t need to use it. I would definitely come back another time and would highly recommend.

We had a great time at the Dingle Den!

There were two of us and a dog, and it was the perfect size. There is a private car park space and a wheelbarrow to help with getting luggage up the path to the den. The den is perfectly secluded and has a fenced private field with a stream which we were able to let our dog roam free in. The den is eco friendly and runs off solar power which is enough to charge one iPhone at a time and power lights etc but not to use a hairdryer and no fridge. Alternatively, there is a fridge in the barn down the path or you can store items in the stream to keep them cold, which we did-this was quite fun! The shower has good pressure and the water is hot. There is a composting toilet. Kitchen facilities were good and we had a couple of fires in the wood burning stove. There is a fire pit outside that we didn’t make use of. The best part of the Dingle Den is that the field leads straight onto a path with many walking options. We did a couple of routes which looped up and over the Cat’s Back. The family were very helpful and gave us a lovely welcome pack with homemade scones. Would highly recommend for a break from city life!

Dingle Den was everything we hoped it would be - stunningly beautiful, peaceful and private.

We spent a week away from phones, laptops and traffic and we left feeling totally relaxed and revitalised. We spent so much time outside, enjoying the surroundings, having campfires and BBQs and watching out for wildlife, but when it was time to go in for the night the Den had everything we needed - comfort, cleanliness, a super-comfy bed and a great shower! You soon learnt to adapt to life without a fridge (the box in the river works a treat) so don’t let that put you off! It’s only a 20 minute drive from Hay on Wye, where we went on a canoe trip down the river and enjoyed great brunches (at the old Electric shop and The Granary, plus you can have a great coffee and people-watch sitting outside Cosy Cafe) and can highly recommend a hike up the Cat’s Back for stunning views over Herefordshire and the Black Mountains (and you can set off from the gate at the top of the paddock) We just loved the peace (and the privacy!)…there is nothing to hear but birdsong, a babbling brook and the sheep in the field next door. Utter bliss - we will be back.

My Whippet Lady and I have been holidaying at the Cow Cott over the past 4 years.

We absolutely love it here! Carol is just wonderful. She welcomes us with open arms and leaves us lovely treats. Nothing is too much trouble and she always makes time for a chat. The cottage is beautiful, so clean and comfortable and has everything you need. We have fallen in love with Rosie and Ted. They are such sweet souls and we enjoy spending time with them. There’s so much to see in the area. We spent a day at Hergest Gardens and Park wood, stopping for a delicious cream tea at the Maples tea rooms. We went for walks through the fields amongst the sheep and their lambs and we saw wild ponies up at Hergest Ridge. Brobury Gardens are beautiful especially this time of year as the bluebells are already out and the apple blossoms are so pretty. The Garden cafe is also well worth a visit for a cream tea or lunch. I cannot recommend the Cow Cott enough, that’s why we keep returning! It fills you with such a sense of peace and tranquility. A very special place and we hope to return again soon.
