Have an island adventure with our Isle of Skye holiday cottages

This beautiful destination is Scotland's best-known island for very good reasons. The stunning Isle of Skye is beloved for its medieval castles, idyllic fishing villages, rugged landscapes, fascinating history and spectacular scenery.

It's also a popular filming location, with epic films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Macbeth, and The BFG filmed here.

To experience this incredible Scottish island for yourself, why not book one of our cosy and comfy Isle of Skye holiday cottages? Whether you're looking for a weekend break with someone special, a staycation with the family, or a fun getaway with friends, our cottages provide the perfect base to see everything Skye has to offer.

Why choose an Isle of Skye weekend break or staycation?

The Isle of Skye is connected to Scotland's northwest coast and is the largest island in the Inner Hebrides. Thanks to the Skye Bridge, which connects the island to the mainland, it's also the most accessible of Scotland's islands.

The history of Skye dates back to the Neolithic period, but ancient remains such as Iron Age forts suggest it might even have been occupied in prehistoric times. As such, there is a lot of history packed into this enchanting island. From the Gaelic-speaking Scots in the first centuries BCE, the Vikings who ruled from the 9th-12th centuries, the Lord of the Isles who were in charge until the 15th century, and finally, the Kingdom of Scotland, this small island is the home of some incredible stories.

When exploring the Isle of Skye, you'll find fossils of dinosaur footprints, and ancient castles, including Dunvegan Castle, home to the MacLeods clan, old churches, and Scottish round towers that have been standing for thousands of years.

Another castle you'll want to add to your itinerary is Armadale Castle, which has over 1,500 years of history and is the ancestral home of Clan Donald. The castle is surrounded by 20,000 acres of land and gardens, which are wonderful to walk around.

As well as its history, Skye is loved for its jaw-dropping scenery. If you're a keen walker, you'll be spoilt for choice on this island. The hiking opportunities surrounded by breathtaking landscapes are endless. A few favourites include The Old Man of Storr; incredible rocks that can be seen for miles around, the Quirang, and Point of Sleat, a dramatic walk that takes you to a lighthouse and offers plenty of wildlife-spotting opportunities.

For more epic natural landmarks, head to the magical Fairy Pools, a series of pools with beautifully clear and clean water. The pools are nestled between the Cuilin Mountains by Glenbrittle, and you can even swim under the natural arches (if you're brave enough to plunge into the cold water).

More fairy magic can be found at the Fairy Glen, which can be found on the west side of Trotternish at Balnacnoc, Uig. Relax in the gorgeous surroundings, bring a picnic, and see if you can spot a fairy darting around.

For a taste of bustling island life, head to the pretty harbour town of Portree. The island's capital and cultural hub is the perfect base for exploring the sites and the remote parts of the Isle of Skye. You can hop on a boat trip for a wildlife-watching tour, where you'll head to the Strait of Raasay to see golden eagles, dolphins, seals, and sea eagles.

Whisky fans will be in heaven visiting Talisker Distillery. Nestled on the shore of the loch with sensational views of the Cuilins, this distillery produces world-famous single malt whisky. You can book a tour, enjoy a fine dining experience, and, of course, sample a few drams of the delicious tipple.

There are plenty of beaches on the Isle of Skye. One of our favourites has to be Staffin Beach, which sits beneath the Trotternish ridge. There's a charming village nearby and lots to discover. You might even stumble across some dinosaur fossils, as dino footprints were uncovered in 2002.

We've only just scratched the surface of things to do on this amazing island. To experience it for yourself, book one of our holiday cottages, and let your adventure begin.

Discover your perfect Isle of Skye holiday rental

The Isle of Skye was recently voted the 4th best island in the entire world by National Geographic, which means that it's become a bit of a holiday hotspot.

Although it's not renowned for tropical weather, the island does see the mercury rising in the summer and many of our Isle of Skye holiday cottages are close to some of the best beaches, such as Glen Brittle Beach and Talisker Bay.

Whether you fancy staying by the coast or in the middle of the countryside, our Isle of Skye self-catering properties will give you all the home comforts you could need in a location you'll love.
