The Black Country Living Museum is not a static attraction but an immersive experience for the whole family. If your kids have been moaning about school, then show them what a classroom was like in 1912 when slates were the interactive whiteboards of the day. The 26-acre site has houses, workshops, pubs, heritage buses, an underground mining experience and a 1920s cinema. There really is something to interest everyone!
Looking for somewhere to stay close by? A holiday cottage gives you so much more privacy and flexibility than a hotel. There is plenty of choice of self-catering accommodation near the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley too, so finding one to fit your requirements is a breeze. As well as a day at the museum, you can visit Dudley Castle, Himley Hall and the scenic Clem Hills.

The Black Country Museum is in the regional heart of the Black Country, between Tipton and Dudley. It’s clearly signposted from the M5 (exit at J2) and the M6 (exit at J10) and close to the A4037. There is parking and 13 charge points for electric vehicles. A small parking fee applies.
Tipton train station is only a mile from the Black Country Living Museum. It’s on the Birmingham to Wolverhampton West Midlands Railway.
The Diamond Route 229 and National Express West Midlands bus 11 stop outside the Black Country Living Museum.
You can also cycle to the Black Country Living Museum on the Dudley National Cycle Route, accessible from the National Cycle Routes 5, 54 and 81.
Walsall is justifiably proud of its industrial heritage, particularly its leather and metalworking industries. Attractions include the tranquil Walsall Arboretum, the Leather Museum and the contemporary New Art Gallery.
The city of Wolverhampton is a great place to live and a wonderful place to visit, especially if you love eating and shopping. It is six miles from the Black Country Museum.
Famous for its football team, West Bromwich is on the edge of the Sandwell Valley Country Park and only five miles from Dudley.
The magnificent Shri Venkateswara Temple, Oak House Museum and Galton Bridge are just three reasons to go to the market town of Oldbury. You’ll find it just 3.5 miles from the Black Country Museum.
Belper is at the geographical and historic heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site — a place that’s widely considered the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.

Cadbury World is a delightful mix of chocolate and fun, making it a popular attraction for all ages. It’s tucked away in Bourneville, 10 miles (or a 30-minute drive) from the Black Country Living Museum.
Birmingham is overflowing with wonderful things to see and do, including the fantastic National SEA Life Centre. It is located on the outskirts of the city, around 25 minutes from the Black Country Museum, and home to the UK’s only 360-degree ocean tunnel.
So famous are the ceramics produced in Stoke-on-Trent that the region is widely known as The Potteries. It’s found just over an hour’s drive north of the Black Country Living Museum. Visit to browse the pottery factories, museums and outlet shops galore.
A scenic 22-mile drive from the Black Country Living Museum, Ironbridge is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can still cross the bridge: the first of its kind in the world that spans the River Severn.
Stratford-Upon-Avon is a delightful town made famous as the birthplace and home of William Shakespeare. It is a must-see for anyone with an interest in The Bard or Tudor and Elizabethan history, plus it’s only an hour’s drive south of the Black Country Living Museum.
