Set in Milton Keynes, this 19th-century mansion is steeped in tales of war and espionage. The top-secret home of the famous World War Two codebreakers, the top-secret work which took place at Bletchley Park played a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the war itself.
The government bought the Victorian mansion in 1938 and assembled some of the brightest minds in the country there, including Alan Turing, Gordon Welchman and Bill Tutte. The team’s mission was to decrypt and analyse the coded messages which were intercepted from the Germans, Italians and Japanese. Due to the success of the codebreakers, many military operations of the enemy were foiled and countless lives saved.

Those travelling to Bletchley Park by car should exit the M1 at Junction 13 and follow the signs for the park. If you’re using a sat-nav or Google Maps, then enter ‘Sherwood Drive MK3 6DS’ as the postal address may take you to the wrong location. Once you arrive at the mansion, you’ll find free on-site parking available. However, it’s worth noting that this is limited and operates on a first-come-first-served basis.
If you’re travelling to Bletchley Park by train, then Bletchley train station is the closest station and is just a few minutes walk away from the park. Direct services run to Bletchley from locations all across the UK, including London, Birmingham, Milton Keynes and Rugeley.
The nearest bus station to Bletchley Park is Bletchley bus station, connecting the park with the area of Milton Keynes and beyond. National Express runs coach services from London Victoria to Milton Keynes and the journey takes about an hour and a half. A great option if you’re on a bit of a budget.
Nestled in the beautiful Chiltern Hills, High Wycombe is just an hour away from Bletchley Park and a pretty spot for a weekend break.
