Towns to stay near Chester Zoo
Chester
Although not a town, the historic city of Chester is very much the place to be. Full of beautiful old buildings, cosy cafes and interesting museums, this is a great place to base yourself for a fun-filled family getaway.
Rhyl

Pretty much at equal distance from both the zoo and Peak District, Northwich is a great town to base yourself if you’re planning on exploring both attractions. With an interesting history and plenty of places to shop, eat and drink, Northwich is a lovely destination in its own right too.

Chester City Centre
Originally founded as a Roman fortress nearly 2,000 years ago, you’ll find over 500 Grade II listed buildings in Chester. Wander the city’s ancient walls, which are actually the most complete city walls in Britain, and enjoy stunning views over the city.
Chester Racecourse
If you fancy a bit of a flutter, then pay Chester Racecourse a visit. With races running from May to September, the course also hosts special family fun days, geared towards children. Thought to be England’s oldest racecourse still in operation, horses hooves have been pounding around the track at this historical spot for around 500 years.
Peak District
With the Peak District right next to you, you should really take the opportunity to get out and stretch your legs. Bursting with dramatic limestone valleys, sweeping moorland plateaus and enchanting forests, the Peak District is the ultimate spot for nature lovers, keen cyclists and walking enthusiasts alike.
Grosvenor Museum
Find out all about the history of Chester at the Grosvenor Museum. This museum houses a variety of collections exploring the art and silver heritage of the region, as well as its natural history.
