If you’re travelling to Edinburgh Castle by car, then head straight for the city centre where you’ll be able to see the castle located at the top of the Royal Mile. The castle itself offers no parking but there’s a variety of parking available in town. Castle Terrace and Johnston Terrace are the nearest on-street parking zones.
Those travelling to Edinburgh Castle by train will be pleased to hear that there are plenty of services connecting Edinburgh to the rest of Britain. Direct services to Edinburgh run from London, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle, as well as Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness. The city is home to two major train stations, Edinburgh Waverley Station and Edinburgh Haymarket Station, with Edinburgh Waverley Station being the largest and most central station. From here, it’s just a short walk uphill to the castle.
It’s easy to reach Edinburgh Castle by bus, with National Express running plenty of coach services from across the UK. Once you arrive in the city, you’ll find an array of public and private bus routes which pass the castle. Look out for local bus services which include ‘The Mound’ or ‘George IV Bridge’ on their route, or else enquire about the hop-on, hop-off bus tours as some of these stop off by the castle.

Spend a relaxing day wandering through the various Glasshouses and Palmhouses, before exploring the Rock Garden and Rhododendron Collection.
If you fancy getting out and stretching your legs, as well as seeing some epic views of the city to boot, then climb up Arthur’s Seat. An extinct volcano, this towering rocky summit offers panoramic views over Edinburgh. It’s only 251 metres high and suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. The views make it well worth the climb so don’t miss out on it!
