Nestled in a picturesque woodland setting on a private fifteen-acre woodland estate, close to the waters of Lake Windermere, is this 20th century character cottage. Offering a high standard of comfort and living in any season, Hodge How Cottage is an excellent base for families or friends wishing to come together and enjoy a tranquil holiday with easy access to Troutbeck Bridge and Orrest Head. As you step inside you will instantly sense the traditional style of the property with exposed beams and a feature fireplace in the sitting room, accompanied by ample seating and a multi-fuel burning stove for those cosy winter nights. A door leads through to the well-equipped kitchen, appointed with many appliances including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, ensuring a stress-free cooking. Take your lovingly prepared home-cooked meals to the dining room which is a delightful addition to the house with its floor to ceiling windows, interesting rooflines and doors to the courtyard garden. Stairs from the sitting room lead to two charming bedrooms, including a king-size and a twin, served by a quality bathroom with freestanding cast iron bath and separate shower, allowing you to choose how best to prepare for the day. The third bedroom is downstairs and features a king-size bed, dressing area and a fully tiled en-suite shower room. Furnishings and fittings are refreshing with a mix of classic neutrals, warm colours and natural woods. Relish in the superb courtyard where you can enjoy a barbecue amidst the sunshine or explore the garden further and discover a fine woodland at the rear with plenty of mature trees and rhododendrons. Walkers can delight at Hodge How Cottage with plenty of rambles from the door towards Orrest Head, Troutbeck or to Miller Ground while the natural gardens surrounding the property are home to a lovely selection of birds, deer, squirrels, foxes, rabbits and badgers. Walk down to the shores of Lake Windermere and enjoy a picnic with a gorgeous view. For day trips throughout the Lake District, Ullswater is a delightful drive away and offers lake cruises, great walking and the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall, or you can head to Buttermere and the Borrowdale for beautiful scenery in abundance. Bowness and Ambleside are not to be missed, with a wealth of quirky shops worth browsing, plenty of first-class eateries to try and some great family attractions including the World of Beatrix Potter and Rydal Mount & Gardens. If you’re looking for a secluded holiday base while keeping close to a number of amenities, consider Hodge How Cottage.
The twin towns of Bowness and Windermere are both vibrant, fun-filled places set within the splendid scenery of the Lake District. Both towns provide a range of amenities, shops and restaurants to suit all tastes whilst Ambleside offers the additional attraction of a boat ride to Bowness, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter's 'Hill Top House' at Sawrey. Grizedale Forest Park is within easy driving distance and is home to a range of activities including many good walks, mountain biking and the 'Go Ape' adventure park. The region also boasts many National Trust properties as well as a variety of water sports for those who prefer a more adrenaline-fuelled trip. Children will enjoy a trip to the 'World of Beatrix Potter' in Bowness whilst the villages of Grasmere, Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains are all within easy reach.
