Winacres Cottage is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful touches like a generous welcome hamper. Set in a tranquil location with easy access to Cotswolds attractions, it offers well-equipped facilities and a private garden. Some guests noted low ceilings in the upper bedroom and garden maintenance as minor issues.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as 'spotlessly clean', 'immaculate', and 'well maintained', indicating a very high standard of cleanliness.
The location is praised for being quiet, peaceful, and convenient for exploring the Cotswolds, with lovely walks and local amenities nearby.
The cottage is frequently described as 'comfortable' and 'cosy', with comfortable beds and a warm atmosphere. However, some guests mentioned hard mattresses and low ceilings in the upper bedroom.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and modern bathrooms. Some guests felt the fridge was small and the garden overgrown, which suggests room for improvement.
The welcome hamper is repeatedly mentioned as a highlight, showcasing the hosts' thoughtfulness. While gifts are appreciated, they are a bonus and not a guaranteed feature.
Winacres Cottage is truly a hideaway where you can get away from it all and enjoy its idyllic location, well placed for donning walking boots and exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside. As a result of winning the land in a poker game at the turn of the 20th century, Winacres Cottage is aptly named. Extensively and thoughtfully rebuilt, the property has been tastefully and elegantly furnished throughout, to welcome you to a perfectly located Cotswold hideaway, positioned directly on the edge of National Trust's Minchinhampton Common.
Through the stable-style door is a beautifully redesigned open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room space with fully restored original features, including an exposed brick wall, wooden beams and even an antique equestrian saddle rack mounted on the wall. The comfortable and neutrally decorated sitting room opens up onto a quiet private outdoor patio and a west facing sun trap garden oasis with plenty of garden furniture for guests to enjoy. To the rear of the cottage you will find a calming and tranquil ground floor bedroom with the flexibility of a zip and link bed which can be configured as twin single beds or a 6' super-king size as required. This bedroom has the most beautiful and luxurious en-suite bathroom, complete with a free-standing bath, perfect for soaking muscles after long walks in the Cotswold countryside, along with a separate rainfall shower.
Upstairs is the show stopping master bedroom suite with a vaulted ceiling and feature gable end picture window, providing a breath-taking view of the Common to wake up to in the morning. Across your private landing is an equally impressive shower room with an enormous shower and more country views.

Lovely cottage, well looked after and super comfortable. Food hamper on arrival was full of lovely goodies plus the milk, OJ and butter in fridge, very thoughtful. Very quick replies from the friendly and approachable owners to communications and the one small issue we had with the dishwasher was fixed extremely quickly. Would highly recommend this cottage.

The cottage was very well appointed and the welcome pack was of a good standard. The location was excellent although overlooked by the owners property which was very close. The cottage was very well equipped although the fridge was very small for a four person stay. When we arrived at the cottage the temperature was 33 degrees and the cottage did not have a fan. The bedroom in the roof space would have been totally unusable without a fan. The curtains were open on the South facing side of the property which was very hot. As the owner lived next door it might have been more considerate if the curtains had been closed to counter effect the heat. The most disappointing part of our stay was the garden which was very overgrown and the current photograph of it on Rural Retreats site, did not reflect the overgrown nature of it. The shrubbery needs to be trimmed back as it was not pleasant to sit in at all. Whilst comfortable seating had been provided to replace a table and chairs, the paved patio area had not been extended to accommodate the larger furniture which was all perched in a very small area. The BBQ which was provided was dirty and had obviously not been cleaned for some considerable time. We had to buy a disposal BBQ. The photo on the Rural Retreat site showed the property with a stable door which it no longer has. Overall a very nice cottage which we would recommend and with the improvements we have outlined, it would be a perfect place to stay.
