About this property

For guests who appreciate vintage style, spacious interiors and a fantastic swimming pool, Maison Luna could be an ideal base for exploring the wonderful landscapes of the Languedoc region of southern France. What’s more, this unique holiday abode is only 1.5km from the beautiful town of Pézenas, home to exquisite architecture and one of the region’s most famous and historic markets.

This loft-style residence has been cleverly converted from an industrial building. It’s main floor is impressive with open-plan living and dining, huge windows and concrete floors as well as a central atrium below. The heart of the home is the stylish kitchen with its sociable island, ideal for apéritifs as you prepare evening meals to enjoy on the long dining table or al-fresco by the olive trees.

The vintage-style lounge will take you back in time whilst the objets d’art add to the 20th century ambience. As expected, most furnishings have been carefully sourced from auction houses, some originating from old Italian houses or French châteaux. Despite the sometimes quirky style, there is also a great sense of comfort and space.

Maison Luna can sleep up to 8 guests and all four bedrooms feature a bath or shower (mostly open-plan to the bedroom). There are three attractive bedrooms with queen-size double beds and a fourth room with a double sofa-bed. Downstairs (besides three of the bedrooms), you will find a superb games area with a billiard table and record player, both features that add to the retro vibe of this holiday getaway.

Set within the high-walled courtyard, the swimming pool is a brilliant addition for warm summer days after a day out pottering around Pézenas or exploring the region. What’s more, despite the house being in the suburbs of the town, you are not overlooked if privacy is important to you.

Walk through the courtyard’s back gate and you will find yourself a world away in a commercial centre, just a very short stroll from a large supermarket for stocking up. The heart of historic Pézenas is around 1.5km away – leave the car and wander to the town (ask for the short cut) so you can make the most of the charming restaurants and bars serving local Languedoc wines.

Embrace the rich heritage of Pézenas with its medieval lanes, delightful shops and very characterful Saturday morning market that dates back to the 14th century. In the height of the summer, a lively night market takes place on Friday evenings where you can join locals and visitors alike to experience great food and wine accompanied by live music.

Arrange tastings and tours across Languedoc vineyards, enjoy lunch out in historic wine villages, hire boats or cycle along the Canal du Midi and canoe/kayak on the River Orb. Try freshly harvested oysters from the Étang de Thau, spend the day in the vibrant town of Béziers or venture to the Mediterranean for sandy shores, family fun and a brilliant range of watersports.

Maison Luna is located in the outskirts of the historic town of Pézenas, around 1.5km from the heart of the medieval centre. The nearest airports are Béziers Cap d'Agde Airport (25km) and Montpellier Airport (65km) whilst TGV trains connect Paris Gare de Lyon and Béziers/Agde in around four hours.

In a relatively unusual setting just off one of the main roads leading towards the town centre, this former industrial unit is almost hidden within its own courtyard and has a back gate leading to a commercial area, working garage and car park – once you walk through the car park and cross a road, you are then by a large supermarket making it easy to stock up on groceries. It is just over a 5-minute drive into the historic quarter of Pézenas or you could walk through the suburbs in around half an hour (ask about the short cut to town).

A true gem of southern France, Pézenas is a beautiful and historic town loved for its Saturday morning market dating back to the 14th century – it attracts visitors from afar and is regarded as one of the region’s best markets. The town is also known for its associations with the playwright Molière – L'illustre théâtre de Pézenas is another jewel of the town.

Meanwhile, wander around Pézenas’ medieval lanes, admire the town’s grand 16th to 18th century houses, visit little art galleries, dine out in restaurants and enjoy local Languedoc wine in atmospheric bars. If staying in late July/August, ‘Les Estivales’ usually takes place on Friday evenings, a vibrant evening festival of good food, wine and music.

This region offers ample opportunities for wine-tastings and vineyard tours across wineries and historic villages. Follow cycling trails through this part of the Hérault, discover walking routes through the wild garrigue and try freshly harvested oysters overlooking the Étang de Thau in Mèze (23km).

Around half an hour away, spend time by the Mediterranean coast near Cap d'Agde (23km) or Marseillan Plage (30km). Sète (40km) is another fine day out with a vast sandy beach, attractive town, boat trips along the canal and plenty of summer activities Away from the coast, the vibrant town of Béziers (22km) is a superb place to explore (the Béziers Feria takes place in mid-August).

Further inland, embrace the natural surroundings of Lac du Salagou (34km) for lakeside walks, mountain biking and seasonal watersports, or head to Cessenon-sur-Orb (40km) for canoeing/kayaking along the river. Keen cyclists note that the Canal du Midi is also within easy reach for more idyllic scenery (just beyond Béziers).

Further afield, be inspired by the beauty of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert (44km), drive to cosmopolitan Montpellier (62km) or you could even spend the day in Carcassonne (102km), one of France’s most visited destinations less than a 90-minute drive from your holiday home.
