About this property

Guard Sweeney’s Cottage is a quaint semi-detached cottage in Dromahair, County Leitrim. The property is perfect for a family getaway due to its three bedrooms that can sleep up to eight guests. It is situated close to the centre of the village and boasts a woodburning stove to keep you warm and snug and handy off-road parking that will make it easy to arrive and unpack. Enter your home-away-from-home to find that the kitchen, dining, and living areas have been seamlessly merged into a single open-plan space. It is furnished with seating and a wood-burning stove; sit by the fire and enjoy a beautiful home-cooked meal with your friends and family. Rustle this up in the ampley-equipped kitchen where there is an oven, a hob, and a microwave at your disposal. After dinner unwind in the sitting room, flick on your family’s favourite film and discuss your plans for the trip. When sleep calls, you can retreat to any of the three bedrooms. The first two bedrooms are furnished with a spacious double bed, while the third bedroom is an endearing family room, which has a double bed and a fun bunk bed that children are sure to love. Dromahair is a picturesque town located in County Leitrim and Guard Sweeney’s Cottage is at its heart. It is home to Parke's Castle, a 17th-century fortified house, and Creevelea Friary, a 15th-century Franciscan monastery. Keen ramblers will be sure to enjoy scenic walks along the Shannon-Erne Waterway, which runs through the town, or families can take a boat trip on Lough Gill. There are also several pubs and restaurants in Dromahair, including the award winning Riverbank Restaurant and quirky Village Tea Rooms overlooking the river at Stanford's Bar, making it the perfect place to relax and soak up the Irish atmosphere. Venture a little further afield and visit Silgo, a vibrant and creative town, full of history and culture. The Abbey is a beautiful old structure that is well worth a visit, as is the Model, which is home of the Niland Collection. The Yeats Society Sligo is also a great place to learn more about the famous poet, and the Famine Memorial is a sobering reminder of the tragic events of the past. There are plenty of great restaurants and bars in Sligo, like Fiddlers Creek Restaurant and Bar, Thomas Connolly Bar, and Jalan Jalan, where you can indulge in a tasty meal or celebratory drink, perfect for the nights you don’t fancy cooking. Guard Sweeney’s Cottage provides an idyllic setting for families looking to explore the Irish countryside.

The small village of Dromahair is located next to the County Sligo border and beautiful Lough Gill, which offers a wide range of watersports and excellent fishing opportunities. Shops and pubs line the streets of Dromahair, which is a great place from which to explore the beautiful County Leitrim. Keelogyboy, Leean and Benbo's in the "Sleeping Giant" mountain formation are visible from the road into the village. A short drive from the village takes you to the bustling town of Sligo, which is home to the Model Arts Centre, Hawkswell Theatre, a cinema, and a fantastic selection of pubs and restaurants.
