About this property

A tremendous and contemporary studio barn conversion set in Tacumshane in County Wexford, Ireland. Open plan living, well-equipped kitchen, large garden. Note: This house can be rented with The Owl's Hoot (965502) and Sanderling Lodge (962010) allowing a party of 18 to enjoy.

The village of Tacumshane in County Wexford has a pub and restaurant, The Millhouse, and is home to Ireland's only surviving windmill. Built in 1846, the timber used is thought to be beach driftwood or wood from the shipwrecks that were all too common in this coastal region. The windmill is now designated a national monument. This part of County Wexford has plenty on offer - Tacumshane Lake is a favourite with anglers and birdwatchers, there are golf courses, and the coastal walking path is easily reached. Kilmore Quay fishing village is a few miles down the road, and there are some lovely beaches, ideal for relaxing and playing on the sand. The county town of Wexford is under 10 miles away, and offers plenty of amenities including shops, bars and good restaurants. We were disappointed to be told that we had to pay to get rid of our rubbish. The owner suggested we keep our rubbish until we had three bags and then pay at a "BIG BIN" nearby. Like most people we didn't want to store rubbish for our 2 week stay so had to drive our rubbish and pay 9 euros each time. On one occasion the service was not available at either Killinick or wexford so we had to drive round with it. We were also disappointed to have a charge for the electric at the end of our stay in addition. We were not excessive with our usage at all. We found the sofa very uncomfortable. The cottage was generally quite clean. Decent shower.

I have family in the area and it's like my second home so visit when I can. Could do with a bit of modernising and a bit more maintenance in the garden area. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay as I have stayed here twice previously. Brian very attentive. Will be back here again.

The local beach (minutes drive away) is beautiful and the local pub/ restaurant (10 mins walk) is great. Brian is a most gracious host and on hand if needed. Would happily stay again.
