Granny Kate's Cottage in Ardara offers a unique, historical experience with stunning views and a peaceful setting. Guests appreciate the authentic charm, comfortable beds, and the opportunity to step back in time. The location is ideal for exploring Donegal's natural beauty. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall sentiment is positive, with many guests eager to return.
The cottage's cleanliness received mixed reviews. While some guests found it satisfactory, others noted issues with a dirty kitchen floor and the presence of a mouse, suggesting room for improvement in this area.
The location is highly praised for its beauty and convenience as a base for sightseeing. The proximity to Ardara town and scenic spots like Glengesh Pass contributes to its high rating.
Comfort levels are generally good, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy. However, some suggested improvements to mattresses and the addition of cushions.
Facilities have mixed feedback. Guests enjoyed the historical features and turf fire, but noted missing game pieces and the absence of a tin opener. The coin-operated heating and lack of modern amenities like Wi-Fi were drawbacks for some, and there's insufficient information to accurately score maintenance.
The provision of hot water bottles and a selection of board games show thoughtfulness. However, the lack of clarity regarding the need for coins for power and the absence of guaranteed gifts like wine or scones, as mentioned in some reviews, suggest that while thoughtful touches exist, they may not meet all expectations.

To be fair the location is good , the shower room reasonably clean and the peat fire enjoyable however the general air of neglect and filth inside the cottage is not. There is a revolting stench in the small kitchen which can only be described as sour, stale vomit. The cooker is in a very dangerous condition, the hot plates are encrusted with rust and one switch on the left turns on all four hotplates. Having to pay for electricity, hot water and heating by meter effectively increases the weekly rate.
