On the northernmost point of the County Donegal coast, the settlement of Gortahork is becoming a more well-liked surfing and trekking destination. The region has a number of lovely beaches, and the village hosts the annual Samhain International Poetry Festival. With 16,000 acres, Glenveagh National Park is a walkers' paradise and is easily reachable from Gortahork. In 1980, the well-known artist Derek Hill left his home, gallery, and art collection to the country. The property also includes the Glebe Gallery and Tea Rooms, which regularly stages exhibitions. Visit the neighbouring Bunbeag, which has a spa and swimming pool, or the An Chuirt Hotel, which is located at the base of the Errigal Mountain and has a health club and spa of its own. Arranmore, Cruit Island, and Owey Island may all be visited from Gortahork by chartering a boat. Island hopping is enjoyable for the whole family. Although Cruit Island is easily accessible by car thanks to a bridge connecting it to the mainland, renting a boat is considerably more fun! The nearby town of Dungloe, which is known for its excellent fishing, hosts the yearly "Mary From Dungloe" event. This is a fantastic location and a terrific home base for exploring the region.

Highly recommended. Had everything needed. Lovely views. Good contact as well with Sinead. Will definitely stay again.

We really enjoyed returning home each evening and watching the sunset from the picture window in the smaller living room. There were a few small items that could be addressed, such as a house booklet to explain what is where, how it works and what activities are nearby. The sofa in the 'formal' living room was not comfortable; after sinking right down into it, we spent the rest of our time in the other room, which was cosier. The house could also benefit from eg. rugs beside the beds, bins in the bathrooms/bedrooms. Our main issue with this house is that it is NOT walkable to a beach. The main road has a 100-km speed limit and I made the mistake one evening of walking with the dog along the road - with no pathways. The drivers were aware and respective of our presence, but it was not a comfortable walk. I would suggest that you'd need a car to get anywhere, especially the nearest beach. In say that, we did enjoy our time here and it was a great base for exploring Donegal.
