About this property

A wonderful conversion of a former Victorian powerhouse, 800 yards from the sandy beach in the former fishing village of Skinningrove. Restored to a very high standard, this house in Skinningrove includes a magnificent entrance hall with central ash staircase leading to a galleried landing with leaded glass dome. The Power House offers superb, light and airy accommodation, including a sitting room with feature Victorian cast iron fireplace, arched windows and sea views. Large kitchen that provides all the facilities that you will need including a glorious Yorkshire range, a real focal point of this Skinningrove cottage, and one of the dining tables incorporates a slate bed snooker table. There are two sitting rooms, both with TVs, one of which has a double sofa bed and ramped access, which may make this delightful property suitable for accompanied disabled. Six bedrooms include two with four poster beds and two with en-suite bathrooms, offering a touch of luxury as well as great flexibility over the sleeping arrangements. A family sized bedroom that sleeps four has two single beds on a mezzanine floor with a distinctive porthole giving sea views, plus there are three further bathrooms, one of which boasts a beautiful roll-top slipper bath. The historic town of Whitby and the coastal villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay are all easily reached, as is the lovely scenery of the nearby North York Moors National Park, making this a great Skinningrove holiday cottage for exploring this fabulous region, any time of the year.

This former fishing village is on the Cleveland Way, and visitors will find a collection of interesting houses and a good variety of shops and a beautiful sandy beach within its boundaries. As well as being a fishing village, Skinningrove was part of the Ironstone Mining Industry and there is a museum in the area that charts the history of this industry. Saltburn is just six miles away and has retained much of its Victorian charm, including the pier, colourful Italian Gardens and the oldest water balanced cliff tramway in Britain, well worth a visit. Skinningrove is ideally placed as a base to explore the dramatic scenery of the moors and the many coastal towns and villages in the area, making it a great holiday base.

If I have a grumble about anything, which is hard to find, I would recommend shower safety mats in the four poster shower on-suite, which is very slippery when wet, otherwise facilities are to a very high standard. The owner is to be congratulated on a superb holiday home..

Iron spiral staircase is dangerous for head injury for a taller person

Bed linen was well used but clean. Towels were clean and like new. Beds were uncomfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. Comfortable chairs outside but not inside. Hot tub was well looked after with a daily visit. No special touches which is a shame with a special building.
