About this property

Farmer’s Rest is a lovely, detached bungalow located to the north of Cambridge in Sutton, where rolling farmland meets the flat Fens. It is just a short drive from the city of Ely, with its magnificent cathedral (the "Ship of the Fens"). Well-positioned for exploring nearby attractions, this three-bedroom property boasts ample off-road parking and can sleep up to six people, welcoming a family or group of friends. Just off the spacious hallway are three bedrooms: one super-king-size (which can be converted into two singles), a king-size with an en-suite walk-in shower, and an additional king-size, all served by a family bathroom with a shower over the bath, all tastefully decorated for relaxation. The hallway then leads into the lounge, with its leather sofas and a TV, while doors open onto the garden and patio, where you can dine al fresco on the outdoor furniture when the weather permits. Back inside, the dining room comfortably seats six, and leads through to the kitchen, which has a contemporary, bright, and airy feel, housing everything you need to cook something delicious. To the rear of the property is a utility room with a washing machine, so you can stay on top of your laundry, and another cloakroom with a basin and WC. Visit Ely and see the cathedral up close, maybe climb the tower for a stunning view, or enter the Museum of Stained Glass. Cross the green and visit Oliver Cromwell’s House, stroll through the city with its cafés and small shops, or maybe take a boat ride on the River Ouse from the Maltings with its antique shops and tea rooms. Stroll The Backs of Cambridge, only half an hour away, and admire the stunning colleges, maybe take a punt and be guided along the River Ouse for a different view of the city, or wander through the renowned Botanic Gardens, pay a visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum. Wherever you are in Cambridge, there is a good selection of places to eat and drink, with something for everyone. Fancy a day in London? Jump on the train at Ely, and with its main line, be in the city with all its attractions in about an hour and a quarter. Hunstanton and the Norfolk coast are around an hour away; you will pass through Sandringham on the way, so call in and see the Royals at Sandringham House and Estate, then continue on and take a stroll on the beach before finding one of the great restaurants along the coast road, like The Lifeboat Inn and Orange Tree, both in Thornham, or The White Horse at Brancaster, and enjoy a late lunch. Like wandering National Trust properties? There are the likes of Wimpole, Anglesey Abbey, and Ixworth all close by, with Wicken Fen Nature Reserve a great place to stretch one’s legs, where you can see the Konik ponies and water buffalo grazing the wetland, and for the twitchers, booming bitterns, cuckoos, hen harriers, and short-eared owls, when you’re done, grab a coffee and cake in the café. Come in the winter months and see the floodlit feeds at the Welney Wildfowl Trust, from the heated hides, see the swans and ducks close up being fed by the wardens. Travel just the other side of Cambridge to Duxford and visit the Imperial War Museum with its planes and American Air Museum, you may even be lucky enough to see some of the aircraft flying. If a day at the races is your cup of tea, visit Newmarket, the home of racing and the sport of kings, maybe see one of the classics being run, then top it off with one of their Newmarket Nights after-race concerts with some top performers.
