About this property

Sixpenny Cottage is a luxurious, detached Cotswold stone property, which has been lovingly renovated to create a stylish blend of contemporary and character features. Resting on the gentle slope of a hill, with spectacular views over the Windrush Valley, in the peaceful hamlet of Clapton-on-the-Hill, this cottage is the perfect retreat for a large family or group of friends to enjoy a relaxing holiday in the stunning Cotswolds.

Park up in one of two off-road parking spaces before unloading your bags and soaking up your spectacular surroundings, before making your way through the front door that opens into a handy hallway where you can store coats and muddy shoes, wash down in the cloakroom, and make your way through the property.

You will find stunning traditional character features cleverly complimented by contemporary décor and furnishings in the bright and sociable open-plan living space, which is complete with a well-equipped and smart kitchen, and a welcoming living/dining room that contains an ornate stone fireplace, home to a warming woodburning stove. The chef of the group will have no trouble rustling up the evening meal in the kitchen before the whole group retreats to the large dining table, which offers beautiful views over the Windrush Valley.

A handy utility room is located at the rear of the kitchen and contains many facilities including a large fridge/freezer and double electric oven, giving access outside via an external door.

For some peace and quiet from the group, head into the relaxing snug room where you will be able to catch up on your favourite shows on the Freeview TV from the comfort of the double sofa bed.

When sleep is calling, make your way up the lovely staircase and onto the first floor where you will find four beautiful bedrooms and the bathroom; the master bedroom is elegantly decorated, has high vaulted ceilings and offers stunning views over the Windrush Valley which comes with a luxurious, large en-suite bathroom with an inviting freestanding bath and separate walk-in shower. Bedroom two has wonderful Valley views, contains a welcoming king-size bed and has an en-suite shower room. Bedroom three is perfect for children and contains twin beds, with an en-suite shower room. Bedroom five contains a double bed which is made up French style (two single duvets).

A further steep staircase leads up from the first-floor landing to the beautiful eaves of the cottage on the second floor where you will find bedroom four, with whitewashed Cotswold stone wall and lovely beams, this room contains a king size bed.

On warmer days, enjoy your morning coffee in the spectacular garden that has unspoilt views over Windrush Valley and is home to a patio terrace which contains an outdoor table set and a barbecue, with steps leading down into the well-kept lawn area which has an unprotected ledge at the end, with a short drop down to a privately owned field in the open countryside.

The small church of St James dates back to the 11th century, which holds services twice a month and in the summer months, hosts a Benefice service attracting around 100 people, which is held in a local barn with lunch served afterwards.

The neighbouring village of Sherborne is home to a popular village shop and tea room, which provides locals and visitors with a vital social hub, offering locally sourced groceries and everyday essentials, as well as serving coffees, breakfast, lunch and home-made cakes and more.

For your wider needs, Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ due to the low arched bridges that cross over the River Windrush, offers a range of independent shops and restaurants such as Cotswolds Antiques and Tea Room and the lovely Kingsbridge riverside pub, as well as Birdland Park and Gardens where you can enjoy the wildlife.

For an enchanting stay in the Cotswolds, make Sixpenny Cottage your base.

Cheltenham is a town in Gloucestershire and lies beneath Cleeve Hill, the highest point in the Cotswolds and above the vale of the River Severn. It is known as 'The Western Gateway to the Cotswolds'. This edge-of-the Cotswolds spa town is hard to beat for refined elegance and Regency terraces, annual festivals, Ladies' College and racecourse. Also fortnightly farmers markets, classy shops and restaurants all surrounded by glorious countryside. The town is home to the renowned Cheltenham Festival, 4 days of horse jump racing culminating in the Gold Cup, held annually in March at Cheltenham Racecourse. It's also known for Regency buildings, including the Pittville Pump Room, a remnant of Cheltenham’s past as a spa town. There's fine art at The Wilson museum, and the Victorian Everyman Theatre has an ornate auditorium.
