South Hill Farmhouse is a spacious and well-equipped property ideal for large gatherings, offering multiple living spaces, a games room, and a large garden. Its proximity to Stow-on-the-Wold and the warmth of the house are frequently praised, though some guests noted issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and the busy road location.
While many guests found the property to be comfortable and well-equipped, there were several mentions of cleanliness issues such as cobwebs, woodlice, and general cleanliness not being up to standard in some areas.
The property's location is appreciated for its proximity to Stow-on-the-Wold and the ability to undertake various walks without the need for a car. However, the busy road and difficulty crossing it to access the town and footpaths have been noted as concerns.
Guests generally found the farmhouse to be warm, cosy, and well-suited for large groups, with ample space and comfortable living areas. However, some guests mentioned issues with heating and seating comfort for elderly guests.
The farmhouse is praised for its well-equipped kitchens, ample dining space, and entertainment options like the games room. Some guests encountered issues with heating and suggested improvements in maintenance and the provision of clearer instructions for the facilities.
There are mixed mentions of a welcome basket, with some guests finding it delightful and others considering it inadequate. As the provision of gifts is not consistently referenced, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the available reviews.
South Hill Farmhouse (22) is an enormous Grade Two Listed holiday home capable of accommodating up to 22 people in spacious surroundings. The house is located on the Fosse Way, (this is the infamous main road between Cirencester and Stow)approx 5 mins from the heart of the heart of the market town of Stow on the Wold. The quality touches are evident throughout - Farrow and Ball colours, Robert Welch cutlery and Denby crockery all add to the appeal of this large holiday home. An excellent choice for a memorable get-together. (N.B. Details of extra activities available at the farmhouse at bottom of description.)
The highest town in the Cotswolds, Stow-on-the-Wold, originally an Iron Age Fort, epitomises olde worlde England. This ancient market town has played host to many fairs since the 12th century and today holds a biannual Gypsy Horse Fair, craft fairs and monthly Farmers' market. The Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, on the Thursday closest to 12th May and the Thursday closest to 24th October, this is a traditional fair for people to meet up and trade which dates back to 1476 when its Charter was granted; Stow is very busy for a day or two before and after each fair, and a number of shops, pubs and restaurants are closed. The vast market square boasts an ancient cross at one end and the village stocks at the other, surrounded by an elegant array of Cotswold stone townhouses, antique shops, tea rooms, traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants and its very own cricket museum.

More crockery, cutlery, glasses, pans, etc. than we could cope with !! Very spacious accommodation - whether in the kitchen(s) for 'communal' cooking, dining room at family meal times or lounge(s) for reading, TV, relaxing, etc. The games room (table football and table tennis) provided fun entertainment. The property is well situated for visiting many of the popular Cotswold attractions and only a short walk to Stow. There are several longer walks from the property itself - to Broadwell and Donnington, the Swells, the Slaughters and Bourton-on-the-Water for example, though as per previous comments negotiating the busy A429 can be a challenge ! A minor point re the website listing for this property - it would be more helpful if the bedroom descriptions were presented as a list so as to more easily see which had ensuites, baths and/or showers, TVs, etc. rather than a continuous block of text. We would happily book this property again.

Our party consisted of 10 adults 8 children and a dog, the layout worked extremely well for us the bedrooms were clean and comfortable good en-suite facilities and a couple of bathrooms plenty of hot water everyone was happy. Both kitchens were clean and very well stocked with crockery, glasses and every utensil you could think of,the two lounges gave us plenty of room and the games room was a big hit with the kids. This was a great location crossing the road could be a challenge but not a problem.

The house is so spacious, comfortable and well equipped we wanted for nothing. There was a lovely welcome hamper of local goodies, thank you. There was ample parking on the drive and a large secure garden at the rear of the property. The only real negative is the road, which we were aware of when we booked having read previous reviews. Our suggestion would be donât try to do a right turn in or out of the property, but drive on a short distance to where there is an easy junction to make the turn and then go back! We found communication with the management company good, and they were helpful over access and departure times. They also kept us informed as, prior to our arrival, there had been a problem with the boiler. This was being dealt with, but meant the central heating in a few rooms wasnât working. However the alternative provision of plug in radiators for those rooms meant we experienced no issues. We would definitely recommend this accommodation and would use it again.
