... 2 miles from Honiton and 200 yards (private drive) off a lane, two attached cottages close to the charming owners’ 17th cent. farmhouse. They are in a brilliant, peaceful position with fine views, on the side of beech-tree-crowned Dumpdon Hill (Iron Age fort, good walks, Nat. Trust), above the Otter Valley. You are welcome to help when possible on the environmentally-friendly, well managed, clean 135 acre working farm (horses, chickens, Devon cattle, Gotland sheep). Heating and hot water are piped to the cottages and farmhouse from solar panels and a log boiler (out of sight) which is fed with coppiced wood from sustainably managed woodland. Spring water. Arrival after 4pm.
Whitcombe Cottage, converted from a barn across the courtyard from the owners’ house, is comfortable and especially suitable and thoughtfully designed for wheelchair users. Open-plan living/dining/fitted kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, fuel-efficient woodburner, TV/DVD/video and beautiful views to Dumpdon Hill; French windows to secluded patio (table/chairs) and 5 steps up to own small garden (flowers, lawn, more good views). Downstairs shower-room (wet-room suite). Washer-drier in hall cupboard. Upstairs (Stannah lift, stairgates), two bedrooms – a double (5' bed), and a twin; bathroom (suite). Suitable for wheelchair users.

"great location to explore Devon both inland and coast, we visited Lyme Regis , Sidmouth, Exeter, Dartmouth and coast and really enjoyed Greenway national trust property. The owner of the cottage and his daughter were lovely greeting us with home made cake and fresh eggs, they recommended places to eat and our favourite was the masons arms at branscombe.
