Guests consistently praise the cottage for its comfort, well-equipped nature, and tasteful decoration. It serves as a great base for exploring local attractions and enjoying walks. The property is noted for its cleanliness and the owners' responsiveness. While some guests mention traffic noise and the challenge of low ceilings for taller individuals, these are minor compared to the overall positive experience.
The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning it being 'spotlessly clean' and 'immaculately clean', indicating meticulous maintenance.
The location is generally appreciated for its proximity to local attractions and walks, such as Calke Abbey. However, some guests noted traffic noise, which slightly impacted the score.
Comfort is highlighted with mentions of a 'homely' feel and 'comfortable' beds. The presence of a 'secret garden' and thoughtful touches add to the comfort, though low ceilings and traffic noise are noted.
Facilities are well-regarded, with the property being described as 'well-equipped'. However, the mention of bed bugs in one review and the absence of a washing machine in another suggest room for improvement.
Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, such as welcome packs and a bottle of wine on arrival. While these gestures are warmly received, it is politely noted that such gifts are offered at the owners' discretion and may not be guaranteed.

Ticknall is a quiet village nestled in the south Derbyshire countryside, boasting beautiful walks through the neighbouring National Trust Park of Calke Abbey, a lovely local village shop and three pubs the Chequres, The Staff of Life and The Wheel Inn. Melbourne is a small, Georgian market town in a delightful part of South Derbyshire, on the edge of The National Forest. It is about 8 miles south of Derby, and has a good range of shops, pubs, and restaurants. The town is also home to the church of St Michael with St Mary, which is on the site of a much earlier Anglo Saxon building, and is regarded as one of the finest Norman Parish Churches in the country. Swadlincote is also 8 miles north; there is much to enjoy in the town including a lovely relaxing walk, through rolling South Derbyshire countryside, starting from Melbourne’s medieval marketplace. Two of the county’s gems, Melbourne Hall, and the Parish Church of St Michael’s, are passed in the early part of your stroll. Make the most of this attractive location all year round.
