This idyllic cottage is in the unspoilt village of Lea, overlooking the Derwent Valley. It's the perfect retreat for families and groups of friends who enjoy countryside walks and exploring Derbyshire's quaint towns and villages. Throughout the summer, you can visit the beautiful rhododendron garden just outside the village, to admire the fabulous floral displays and enjoy refreshments in the teashop. The village of Cromford - considered the birthplace of the industrial revolution - is 3.5 miles away and is a must for history enthusiasts. On the edge of the Peak District National Park, you'll find the picturesque tourist town of Matlock Bath (4.5 miles), known for its quirky shops, cute cafes, and amusement arcades. Nearby family attractions include Crich Tramway Village (3 miles) and Heights of Abraham (4.5 miles). For a day of outdoor adventure, Carsington Water is 9 miles away, offering canoe, kayak, and paddleboard hire.
The period cottage dates back 170 years and is full of character and charm, with beautiful ceiling beams and other original features throughout. The property is decorated in a country-cottage style and delightful artwork and thoughtful touches make you feel at home. A few steps lead to the front door of the stone cottage. Once inside, leave coats and shoes in the cloakroom, before moving through to the lounge. This is the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring, with two plump sofas, a Smart TV, and a roaring wood burner. A couple of steps lead up to the spacious kitchen/diner. This sociable area has a farmhouse-style kitchen for preparing delicious feasts for the group, and a large table to seat everyone. There's also a cute breakfast bar for informal dining or perching with a glass of wine. In summer, throw open the doors to the garden to further extend the social space. Completing this floor is a peaceful home office overlooking the garden and a handy ground-floor WC. When it's time for bed, climb the stairs to the first floor to discover three tastefully decorated bedrooms. The king-size bedroom enjoys views of the garden from a Juliet balcony and has a gorgeous en-suite bathroom with a free-standing bath and a separate shower. The twin and the single bedrooms each have en-suite shower rooms. Please note, the single is a raised cabin bed and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.
Outside, the enclosed rear garden has a sunny patio area with a table and chairs for al fresco dining. Steps lead from here to a raised lawn with a second seating area under a pretty pergola. There is also a front courtyard with outdoor furniture and a BBQ - the ideal place to enjoy the far-reaching, rural views on a summer's evening. Parking is roadside.
Mr Coates
Great place to explore the area from, wished we could have booked for longer. The cottage was really well fitted out and whilst chilly on arrival soon warmed up with a blast of heating, which was easy to control. Great big sociable dining kitchen and really cosy bedding. Hope to be back sometime.
