Guests say

All Saints View is a quaint cottage in Cockermouth with a convenient central location and a roof terrace that guests enjoy, especially in good weather. The property offers a comfortable bed and is equipped with kitchen items and bedding. However, some guests have noted areas for improvement, particularly in cleanliness and maintenance.

Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including dirt under the sofa, a need for a deep clean, and an unpleasant smell from the drains. However, some guests found the property to be clean and well-supplied.

The location is praised for being central and quiet, with easy access to town. However, parking issues and the proximity to a busy road have been noted as drawbacks by some guests.

Guests appreciate the comfortable bed and towels provided, but there are concerns about steep stairs and the quality of bedding. The living room is found to be comfortable by some.

Facilities have mixed reviews, with some guests happy with the kitchen items and bedding, while others report issues with heating, mould in the bathroom, and a need for better kitchenware and maintenance.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the property owner or management, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

About this property

Offering a couple a wonderful retreat to get away to in the northern Lakes is this lovely cottage, All Saints View, in the small market town of Cockermouth. Close to Bassenthwaite Lake and not far from Keswick, this calm town is less of a tourist spot and more of a hidden gem, with its own streets steeped in history and heritage to discover. The ground floor of the property begins with the living room/diner where you can serve up a romantic breakfast for your other half, and come back from a long walk to the comfort of the sitting area and the TV. The kitchen has all you need for a self-catered stay, and completing the ground floor is bathroom. Once up the steep cottage stairs, come to the king-size bedroom here, with a decorative metal bed frame paired well with the classic cottage features, like the now decorative fireplace. From the landing head through the patio doors and onto the first-floor balcony terrace overlooking the church and the graveyard, a scenic and serene spot to wind down whatever time of day. Step out onto the streets of Cockermouth and discover what this pretty town has to offer; among the local shops and quaint country pubs, you can also find a piece of history, with Cockermouth being the birthplace of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy, their Georgian family home is now owned by the National Trust and offers an insight into what life was like in the 1770s for all those who lived there. Head over to Bassenthwaite Lake for a picturesque walk along the waters, with walks and trails accessed on the eastern side. On the shores of Bassenthwaite is The Lakes Distillery, a wonderful distillery in a renovated Victorian farmstead, offering tours and tastings for visitors, it's a perfect couples activity. The Lake District Wildlife Park is home to an array of animals including zebras, lemurs, otters and many more all within the beautiful Lakes setting. Nearby peaks and fells include Grisedale Pike, Grasmoor, Mellbreak and Watch Hill, so walkers can delight in an epic choice of routes and trails. Spend a peaceful break in the northern Lakes with your loved one at All Saints View.

Cockermouth is a small town settled in the north-west of the Lake District and is famous for being the birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian. A good selection of shops can be found within the town along with pubs and restaurants. The River Derwent and River Cocker meet in the town, with the Derwent carrying on to Bassenthwaite Lake nearby. No coffee-making equipment, no colander, a broken glass left in the cupboard, a frying-pan unusable due to burnt residue, kitchen taps poorly-fitted/broken and no salt! And that's just the kitchen! A smart TV, but NO internet, no books, DVDs or games, downlighter bulbs missing in bathroom and bedroom. The bathroom radiator was turned off and the valve controls missing - so no heat. The room thermostat was faulty and eventually failed. No central heating for 24 hours. The stat was replaced and the bathroom radiator turned on after 4 days of no heat! There would seem to be little interest in supervision or maintenance for this property.

Roof terrace overlooking churchyard. Equipped with many utensils, cleaning products, etc. What's bad: Unfortunately the kitchen sink does indeed emit quite a persistent and pungent smell, indicating some sort of drainage issue.

The property is advertised as dog friendly but it most certainly isnt. The pavement outside is so narrow and is on a busy main road so makes it difficult to get a dog out on a lead. The back yard is dirty and unkempt and the back gate is rotted away at the bottom leaving a big hole for a dog to escape under. The top of the gate is held on with a flimsy piece of wire so no security either. This gate should be replaced before it falls off and injures somebody. The property smells musty generally and is much smaller than it looks on the photos. It needs a good deep clean and freshening up. There is a log burner in the lounge with 'Do not use ' on it and the rug needs a good shampoo. The stairs described as very steep were much worse than I thought with hardly any tread to step on, a definite slipping hazard. Upstairs the bedroom is tiny and unwelcoming with poor quality bedding and towels that should be replaced giving a gloomy impression. The kitchen is no more than a corridor with cupboards on one side. The promised fridge freezer is a very small fridge, no freezer, misadvertising, and the microwave is hidden in a cupboard. There are notes left everywhere with what not to do, nothing helpful. The worse thing about the property and the reason I could not stay there, was the bathroom. As soon as you walk in there is a terrible gut wrenching stench of what I presume are very bad drains, it made me feel sick so surely is a hazard to health Also there wasnt even a roll of toilet paper. I spent a lot of money on this holiday and am hoping Sykes will make some refund to me for not being able to stay there. Also I am hoping a representative from Sykes cottages will visit this property and verify all I have said is true. If you are thinking about booking this property I urge you to think again and not lose a holiday like I did.
