The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworths Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but the main attraction of the area is the scenery and walking in the northern lakes Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.

Heating and hot water were generous and the cottage was well equipped. The location is quiet and calm and access to Cockermouth by car is easy, or to Keswick, Buttermere and Ennerdale for walking. We had amazing weather and our dog and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.
