Located near the peaceful village of Thornthwaite in the north of the Lake District National Park, you’re within a few hundred metres of the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, known for its wetlands nature reserve and nesting ospreys. You’ll be well-placed to immerse yourselves in the area’s natural beauty with an abundance of walking routes on your doorstep. Despite its tranquil rural location, you’re only 6 miles from ‘adventure capital’ Keswick, where there are shops, eateries and outdoor activities on offer.
Boasting lots of original features, this sizeable property oozes gorgeous character and charm, while light tones and large windows add a sense of light and space throughout. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with the wood burner at its heart is large and spacious with plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Should you want more space, a sunroom offers somewhere to soak up the spectacular panoramic views; younger guests will enjoy the games room. Upstairs, the four bedrooms are a blend of traditional and contemporary, and the two shower rooms are finished to an excellent standard. Outside, enjoy al fresco dining against the stunning backdrop of the Bassenthwaite Lake.
Leisurely lakeside walks are plentiful here, but you’re also well-placed to take on the challenge of the northern ascents of Skiddaw (10 miles) and Blencathra (12.5 miles). For something a little more accessible and atmospheric, why not visit historic Castlerigg Stone Circle (8 miles)? Whinlatter Forest Park (6 miles) is a must for outdoor enthusiasts. The Derwent Pencil Museum is a family favourite on rainy days, but the Lake District Wildlife Park (5.5 miles) is a good alternative when the sun is shining.
