Thirlmere Cottage in Keswick offers a peaceful and scenic getaway with stunning views and cosy comfort. Guests appreciate the property's warmth, cleanliness, and the convenience of walks right from the doorstep. While some guests suggest the cottage could benefit from modernisation and better kitchen equipment, the charm of the location and the overall experience seem to outweigh these concerns.
The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, though some guests have noted the presence of cobwebs and dust in certain areas. The occasional mention of a damp smell and a smelly living room suggests room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to local walks and attractions. Guests are consistently pleased with the picturesque surroundings and the convenience of having nature on their doorstep.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, particularly noting the warmth provided by the heating system. However, some guests mention that the property feels cold and damp at times, which slightly affects the overall comfort score.
While the kitchen is well-equipped and the property is appreciated for its amenities, several reviews mention the need for better kitchen utensils, modernisation, and maintenance of items like the fridge and TV. The lack of Wi-Fi and phone signal is also noted, though some see this as a positive for a 'switch off' experience.

This traditional and welcoming cottage enjoys one of the most awe inspiring positions imaginable. At the foot of a mountain and so very close to the southern shores of Thirlmere, this is paradise for those looking to for a quiet retreat in the Lake District. Walkers can enjoy Silver How, Helm Crag, Helvellyn and the Central and Eastern Fells from the door, while cyclists can try out a section of the Sustran National Cycle Route.
After an energetic and busy day, guests will love to gather in the cosy sitting room. Sink into the comfortable sofa by the open fire and slate fireplace or keep an eye out for the local deer, red squirrels and Herdwick sheep. The view is extraordinary. The farmhouse kitchen is a delight. Honister slate worktops and floor, smart fitted units and a large farmhouse table perfect for family meals. Thirlmere Cottage has two lovely bedrooms. The master bedroom comes with en-suite bathroom, a double bed and views across the garden, while the second room can be arranged with a double bed or two single beds. Although slightly smaller, this room has use of a dressing room and the family bathroom with a shower over the bath, basin and wc. The cottage’s large furnished patio is a wonderful place in which to enjoy a morning coffee, a BBQ or simply watching out for the red deer.
Grasmere is the nearest village and here guests will find everything they need. Local shops, supermarkets, tea rooms and of course, Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage and the famous Grasmere Gingerbread shop.
