Guests say

Ale Cottage in Cumbria & The Lake District receives positive feedback for its well-equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and cosy atmosphere, with a real fire adding to the charm. The central location is praised for exploring the area, and the secure garden is a hit with pet owners. The village's tranquillity and the friendly local pub add to the appeal. Some minor issues are noted, but overall guests have had enjoyable stays and many would return.

Most guests found Ale Cottage to be clean and comfortable, with only a few isolated reports of cleanliness issues. The presence of cleaning products and the overall maintenance of the property suggest a high standard of cleanliness, although attention to detail in certain areas could be improved.

The location of Ale Cottage is highly regarded for its peaceful village setting and proximity to the Northern Lakes and Keswick. Guests appreciate the scenic views and the convenience of having a pub next door. The village's friendly atmosphere and accessibility to various attractions contribute to its high location score.

Guests generally find the cottage comfortable, especially highlighting the beds and the cosy living area with a real fire. However, some guests mention that the sofas could be more comfortable, and there are comments about the mattresses being too soft for some preferences.

While the cottage is praised for its well-stocked kitchen and secure garden, there are mixed reviews regarding maintenance issues such as garden upkeep and the need for more comfortable garden furniture. The lack of a freezer and some concerns about Wi-Fi limitations prevent a score from being assigned.

The cottage is commended for thoughtful touches like a well-equipped kitchen and the provision of maps and local information. While some guests mention gifts like spices and other pantry items, it is important to note that such gifts are not guaranteed and may vary with each stay.

About this property

Ale Cottage is a terrific two bedroom characterful beamed cottage sleeping 4 people, in the village of Ireby, 12 miles from Keswick and ideal location if you want to be away from it all, but near enough to explore the northern lakes. Offering spacious accommodation set over two floors, with one double bedroom on the ground floor with en-suite shower room, basin and WC. Up to the first floor there is one twin bedroom that shares a family bathroom with shower over bath, basin and WC and a lovely lounge with a fabulous solid fuel stove, in which you can unwind after a day out exploring the Lakes. The kitchen/diner is a sociable space where you can gather whilst preparing a home cooked meal and talk about the day's activities.  Leading down from the lounge you are out onto the garden where your dogs can scamper about. Outside is a garage with storage.  Ireby is a small village and ideally placed for the Northern Lakes and further afield, there is a small village pub next door where they serve home cooked meals in the evening, where you can sit in front of the fire and unwind.

Situated just to the north of Skiddaw, Ireby is an excellent centre for touring and walking throughout the northern Lakes yet is relatively unspoilt and provides a haven from the hustle and bustle of the busier parts of the Lake District. Ambleside and Windermere are however within easy reach. There are numerous walking opportunities from the door over the Caldbeck Fells and Skiddaw which leads you into Keswick (12 miles by road) where many amenities including Derwent Water, restaurants, pubs and shops await you.

    We wanted for nothing. 10/10

Beautiful little village. Keswick is 30 minutes away and Cockermouth is roughly the same two lovely places to visit. The cottage is very clean and having 2 bathrooms is great. The dog's loved the small garden. The only negative side was there was no welcome pack ie tea, coffee and milk, so we had to then go and find a supermarket has there is no shop in the village. The balcony is a lovely area but if you are there with children or dog's you have to be careful has there's no meshing on the bottom of the rails.... It's a beautiful place to stay and the views are amazing...
