The Windermere Suite in Ambleside is a well-regarded holiday rental, praised for its cleanliness, spaciousness, and stunning views. Guests appreciate its comfortable furnishings, well-equipped kitchen, and proximity to local attractions. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is highly positive, with many guests planning return visits.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently mention the property's cleanliness, describing it as 'exceedingly clean' and 'very clean'. The high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to the positive experiences reported.

The location is frequently highlighted as a major plus, offering tranquillity, privacy, and easy access to Ambleside and nearby walks. The steep drive is noted, but the peaceful setting is deemed worth it.

Comfort is a recurring theme, with guests finding the property quiet, well-furnished, and with good quality beds. The spaciousness and warmth of the property add to the overall comfort.

Facilities are generally praised, especially the well-stocked kitchen and en-suite bathrooms. However, there are recurring comments about maintenance issues such as drain smells and shower problems, which slightly lower the score.

While some guests mention receiving a welcome bottle of wine, others do not. As such gifts are not consistently referenced and their provision is not guaranteed, it is not possible to accurately score thoughtfulness based on the reviews provided.

About this property

Windermere Suite is a luxurious, contemporary second-floor apartment set in acres of delightful hillside surroundings, with spectacular views to Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake. The apart-ment is part of the former Vicarage, a magnificent nineteenth century Grade II listed building. It is a lovely ten-minute stroll over a pretty stone bridge, through tranquil Rothay Park to the centre of the Lakeland town of Ambleside. Drive though the security gates up the winding drive to your parking area, get out and pause for a moment, to take in this tranquil and invigorating setting, before heading up the steps to the main building. Go inside, climb the sweeping, grand staircase to the second floor and walk through the entrance hall to find your luxuriously furnished and spacious split-level sitting room. You will be im-mediately drawn to the south facing turret windows, where you can look out to the glistening lake and the breath-takingly beautiful countryside. You are sure to be delighted by the stunning views from all the properties windows.Relax on the sumptuous furniture and read a book, listen to music or browse the web on the Smart TV, or sit with your favourite drink and plan the next day’s activities. Ambleside, which is set at the heart of the National Park, is a great place for touring the area’s lakes, villages and hamlets. Fancy leaving the car and striking out on foot? No problem, you are staying in the perfect spot. Climb up to nearby Todd Cragg and experience the majestic view of the river winding its way to the lake and the stunning scenery beyond. Set off on one of the many other wonderful trails and walks that start from your doorstep.

Sit on a garden bench to relax and admire the trees, shrubs and wildlife, or if you feel energised play tennis on the shared hard tennis court. At the end of your busy day, unwind in your gorgeous bedrooms. You will find one king size with a luxury en-suite and a twin room with en-suite shower room. There is an additional cloakroom with WC and basin in the hallway.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Everything was as expected, with the furnishings and comfort of the property surpassing our expectations. The view from the sitting room is one we never got bored of! We will definitely consider returning in the future and have recommended the property to friends and family. It was a slightly disappointing about the building works - we are having our roof and windows done at home so were hoping to escape the building site. When we arrived we realised how extensive the scaffolding was and felt we had to keep bedroom window curtains shut for privacy when the builders were working. The builders also liked to blast music out from early in the morning which did ruin the peace and quiet. Two things to note - we tried to find the Ambleside parking permit in the kitchen drawer but had no luck and unfortunately we had no pen to write in the visitor's book - sorry!

TV difficult to understand a few step by step instructions may help. Reference the smell from the drains, this was not a problem as we flushed a couple of times as stated and it was solved. Will return and recommend the property to friends.

This time I have to say we were disappointed. The shower in the twin bedroom was not functioning until the Wednesday of the second week. There were similar problems with the shower in the main bedroom which would not provide hot water consistently ( fixed on that Wednesday after several visits) and the flow was intermittent ( not fixed). There were only 3 dining chairs with no apology/explanation of when that would be sorted until I rang up. The drain smell coming from the shower room in the twin room was very unpleasant. Sadly we will not be returning.
