About this property

Do you ever dream of getting away from it all? Well this might be just the place for you! With no mobile phone signal or Wi-Fi, this property is a true escape from the stresses of everyday life. It's located in the most beautiful, and the most peaceful valley in the Lake District, where there are more sheep than people. The narrow road meanders down the valley, following the little river, with fells flanking either side. If you arrive in the evening, you'll see the fells behind bathed in a sunset glow.

The farm track leads up to the traditional Cumbrian farmhouse with its stone floors, low beamed doorways and comfortable, stylish furnishings. The morning sun lights up the courtyard area to the back of the house making it the perfect place to take a morning cup of coffee, while the patio to the front is great from lunchtime onwards, watching the light flit around the mountains all around you. Every step has been take to ensure your comfort from relaxing on the sofas in front of the open fire to a convivial meal round the kitchen table by the wood burner to the feather duvets that adorn the beds.

From the property, the Lake District is your playground. Seathwaite Tarn behind the house is a 30-minute hike away (and the place where you can get mobile reception). Beyond the tarn is a range of mountains, with Coniston Old Man at the end there. To the front of the house is Harter Fell, dropping down to the Eskdale Valley on the other side. The Duddon is great for climbing with many famous crags to go at. Or there are plenty of wild swimming spots in the river - the most popular of which is Birk's Bridge, just a five-minute stroll away. A five-minute drive takes you to the steepest pass in England - Hardknott Pass leads you to Eskdale, or Wrynose Pass leads you to Ambleside.

This is a superb house in a supreme location. It's one of the oldest farmhouses in this ancient valley and comes complete with wonky floors, low doorways and fabulous views! Open the front door into a wide hallway, laid with slate from Walna Scar - one of the surrounding fells. To the right is the lounge with its open fire and comfortable sofas. There is satellite TV and a selection of DVDs for you to borrow. The kitchen is spacious with electric oven, dishwasher and plenty of storage cupboards. The enormous fridge (with freezer drawers below) and microwave is in the utility room just beyond the kitchen (which also houses the washing machine and additional storage cupboards). Back in the kitchen, there is a small wood burner with a dining table placed by the window to take advantage of the stunning views of Harter Fell and Scafell beyond. There is also a handy 'cold' room which used to be the old dairy. This still has the original slate work surfaces that have been here for hundreds of years. It's a handy space for storing drinks to keep them cool.

A staircase with shallow stairs leads to three bedrooms upstairs and a bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have king-size beds with luxurious feather duvets. They are also furnished with a chest of drawers and hanging space. The twin bedroom has two single beds, a chest of drawers and fabulous views out to the garden and the fells beyond. The bathroom has a bath with an electric shower over.

Outside is a feeling of space and yet more space. To the front of the house is a patio area with seating - it's the perfect place to watch the sun go down, catching the very last rays of sunshine. To the side is an orchard with trees to climb. To the back is a small garden area with seating so you can enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning as the sun comes up.

The barn next door is useful for bike storage and can be locked. A tumble dryer is housed here and there are logs for you to help yourself to (on an honesty payment basis). There are pegs on the wall to hang wet coats and even wetsuits if you've been swimming in the river below or the tarn above!
