This summary has been generated using feedback from guests who have stayed at this property

Raisthwaite Farm is a well-loved, spacious cottage with a large garden, set in a peaceful and picturesque location ideal for exploring the Lakes. Guests appreciate the ample space, the well-equipped kitchen, and the beautiful views. The property's traditional charm and the presence of friendly farm animals add to the delightful experience. While some guests mention dated decor and occasional maintenance issues, the overall sentiment is one of enjoyment and relaxation, with many looking forward to returning.

Cleanliness

The property generally receives positive remarks on cleanliness, with vital areas like kitchen worktops, bathrooms, and bedding being very clean. However, some guests noted dust and cobwebs in less frequented areas, suggesting room for improvement in deep cleaning. The presence of a urine-stained mattress was a significant concern for one guest.

Location

The location is highly praised for its peacefulness, beautiful scenery, and proximity to attractions and walks. It offers a perfect base for exploring the Lakes, with guests enjoying the tranquillity and wildlife. The remote setting is appreciated, although it requires driving to access shops and amenities.

Comfort

Guests find the farmhouse comfortable, with ample room for large groups and cosy woodburning stoves. The beds are generally comfortable, and the property provides a homely atmosphere. Some guests, however, experienced issues with heating and suggested that additional warmth would be beneficial during colder weather.

Facilities

The property is well-equipped with a utility room, garden furniture, and a well-stocked kitchen. However, some guests feel that the cooking facilities could be improved for larger groups, and there are mentions of maintenance issues like plumbing and the need for updated garden furniture. The presence of Wi-Fi is noted, although it can be slow.

Thoughtfulness

The owners' thoughtfulness is evident in the provision of bird feeders, a well-set table with festive crackers and wine during Christmas, and the availability of cleaning products. While these gestures are warmly received, it is important to note that such personal touches may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Set at the end of a private drive and alongside a working farm, Raisthwaite is a picture-perfect property, ideal for a large group of friends. This 17th century converted farmhouse has been adapted to make the perfect base for exploring the Lakes, and with two pets welcome, the whole family can enjoy the many nearby walks.

The house exudes warmth and country charm, with its large farmhouse kitchen and three reception rooms. The dining room is perfect for happy gatherings and features an original range with open fire. Whether getting together for breakfast or fierce boardgame battle, this room is guaranteed to be used by young and old alike. The two divinely comfortable sitting rooms both have wood burning stoves, TVs and lovely views, plenty of room for the whole group to spread out and relax. A utility room and separate shower are also located on this floor.

The first floor is home to four bedrooms, and shared bathroom. Two king size rooms, a double and generous twin each enjoy the wonderful views over the surrounding countryside, in some places reaching as far as Coniston Old Man. There is a family shower room on this floor comprising of Shower, Basin and WC . Stairs to the converted loft reveal a super king size suite with roll top bath, wc and basin. A great place for a long soak after a day on the hills.

With a pretty enclosed garden, an orchard and 25 acres of open space, pets and children can play and run until its time for supper and a night in front of the fire.

Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Foxfield and makes for an ideal day out, travelling the west coast of Cumbria. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District and close to the sea, this attractive town makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely, heather-clad moors.
